Day 1: Meet the Ebony Jewelwing

Have you ever seen a flying jewel in the woods?

This beautiful insect is called an Ebony Jewelwing, a type of damselfly commonly found near streams, wetlands, and shaded woodland habitats.

The males shine with a brilliant metallic green body and dark wings, while females have a similar appearance but feature distinctive white spots near the tips of their wings.

If you've hiked the trails at Potawatomi Wildlife Park in summer, you've probably passed one without even noticing!
