Have you ever seen a bird up close? Do you want to learn how scientists keep track of individual birds? Join the Mass Young Birders Club on Saturday, May 10 for a bird banding demonstration at Manomet Bird Observatory!

At Manomet, scientists put bands on birds to study bird behavior, and the health of bird populations around the world. To band the birds, scientists must catch them first! We will visit the Manomet banding lab and get an up-close look at the birds as they are being banded -- plus, we'll get to release them back to their natural habitat.

On Saturday, May 3, the Massachusetts Young Birders will be participating in Big Day Boston. We will trek around Boston trying to find as many species as we can and we need your help! Join us for this friendly birding competition taking place from 9:30am - 4:30pm all around the City.

We will begin our day at Copp's Hill Terrace and work our way to Paul Revere Park, North Point Park, the Teddy Ebersol Baseball Fields, The Hatch Memorial Shell, Boston Public Gardens and Commons and then towards Nashua Street Park and back to Copp's Hill Terrace! In total, we will walk about five miles. We will take many breaks, stop for lunch, and have lots of snacks and water available throughout the day.

Mass Young Birders had a great time walking the trails at Mass Audubon's Museum of American Bird Art Education Center in Canton on Saturday! We met up with Mass Audubon Property Manager Owen, who shared incredible insight into the secret lives of the critters that call this sanctuary home. Although bird activity was fairly quiet, we did get great looks at a pair of Great Horned Owls whooooo were establishing their territory as they prepare to nest and lay eggs. After following them as they silently flew through the property's pine groves, we heard them dueting - singing back and forth to solidify their partnership - just as the sun started to set. What in incredible evening getting to see and hear one of Massachusetts' largest owls!
