Indian Brook Summer Camp

Indian Brook Summer Camp climbing, singing, milking goats, building, creating, swimming, laughing, hiking, finding voice, backpacking...living together in authentic community

In the early days of F&W, the families who had sons attending Timberlake wanted a similar camp for their daughters, so Indian Brook, a camp for girls, was started in 1941. Over the past 65 years, Indian Brook has developed a very strong program that is uniquely designed for youth ages 9-14 who identify as girls and gender non-binary. Indian Brook revolves around the central values of community, in

terconnectedness and caring for the group. At Indian Brook, each girl's individual strengths, skills and interests are noticed and encouraged. She finds close companionship among her cabin mates and loving support from her cabin counselors. In her daily activities, each girl is exposed to activities that will strengthen her body, encourage her creativity, pique her curiosity, and reveal to her many unknown skills and areas of interest. She is encouraged to try new things, challenge herself and take appropriate risks. For some the risks are physical, like swimming in the lake or hiking with a heavy backpack. For others, the risks may be social, like singing alone at a Cocoa House, or taking a stand with a group of friends. Indian Brook’s program areas include:

* Barns & Gardens
* Work Projects
* Creative Arts
* Outdoor Living Skills
* Waterfront

Ahoy there! I'm Alexis. I use they/them/their pronouns. This will be my second summer as Program Director of IB. Back in Boston, I am a care worker living for each moment. I like playgrounds, making friends with people along my bus route, vegan food, and sharing in community resources. I believe that IB is a place where both campers and staff find mutual opportunity for growth and development. I love hauling compost buckets, quality time with animals, and open dialogue. Let's be considerate and compassionate. Let's recenter ourselves in love! Let's have a lot of fun! I look forward to uncovering all the magic that awaits this summer!

Lynne Hebert (she/her) from Maine will be joining our team this summer as a sensible health person at Indian Brook. She is most excited for some time in the water, time in the sun, and time in the dirt. She loves to run hills, climb rocks, and hike mountains. Lynne once hiked ten mountains in a day!

Our Sensible Mental Health Staff is returning! My name is Rosie McInnes (she/her) and I'm so excited to be returning as the Sensible Mental Health Person this summer! I live in Cambridge, MA where I am a theater artist and playwright, an environmental justice organizer, a nanny, a barista and a facilitator and leader of community healing and listening practices. I included a picture of myself in the winter because even though I love summer best, a big project I've worked on in the past year is a play called "Snowgirl". A thing I love about camp is making space for young people to play hard, take risks, be connected and close and show their fullest selves. I can't wait to see all of you!

Returning this summer is Cass Kotarski (they/them) from Big Lodge Director to Barns & Gardens Director:
I’m delighted to be returning to the IB community as the Barns and Gardens Director this year. Last year, I had the pleasure of being the Big Lodge Director for my first year at camp. I have a passion for song leading, theater, herbal medicine, animals, and good food. Located in Seattle the remainder of the year, I’ve been waiting patiently to return to IB and provide campers a path to a greater connection with animals, farming, and the plants of Vermont (as well as providing a space for making sweet goodies in our Homesteading Kitchen!).

From Senior Lodge Counselor to Work Projects Director - Welcome back Søren!
Whats up IB!!!! My name is Søren, I’m from NYC, but currently live in Baltimore and I use she/her pronouns. I am currently studying sculpture with a focus on woodworking at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In my spare time you can find me playing my guitar, starting impromptu jam sessions with anyone who will join me, and lounging out in the sun (covered in sunscreen). Last summer I was a senior lodge counselor in Lorelei and will be returning this year as Work Projects Director. I can’t wait to take in some beautiful views and build some cool stuff for the IB community!!!! :)

Would it be funny or annoying if both Maeve's were cabin counselors together?
My name is Maeve Woollen, I use she/her/hers pronouns, and I’ve recently relocated from New York City to Ohio to attend Kenyon College. I couldn’t be more excited to be a counselor at Indian Brook this summer, mostly because I was a camper there for 3 years and I know how truly magical the place is! I’m especially excited to spend days in the soil harvesting veggies and cleaning off with a dip in the lake. I’m very passionate about using my hands and feet to accomplish many things, including farming, hiking, rock climbing, and baking! Attached is a photo from last summer when I hiked Vermont’s Long Trail.

Meet another wonderful IB counselor for this summer, Maeve McGee: Hello good people! My name is Maeve and I use she/her pronouns. I come from Putnam (a large patch of trees an hour north of NYC). This summer I’m excited to spend time in such a naturally beautiful place, connecting through community. I love musical theater and entomology, so if anyone wants to talk about Broadway or bugs I’m your gal!

Get ready for your 3, 4, or 5 day trip this summer...meet one of the TRIP STAFF: Hello, my name is Emily and I am super excited to be working at Farm & Wilderness this summer. I grew up in southern New York then moved to Vermont two years ago to study Outdoor Education and Ecology. During that time, I've spent a year backpacking out west! My interests include mostly all "living" systems: especially plants, people, birds and insects. I also really love to craft, sing, and dance. This summer is going to be filled with adventure, growth, and healing. I can't wait to share some laughs and exploration with you!

You scream...I scream...we all scream...for OUR NURSE: Hello! My name is Eliza (she/her/hers) and I'm excited to join the Farm & Wilderness community this summer as a camp nurse! I'm originally from New Hampshire, though am currently rooted in New Haven, CT while studying to be a nurse-midwife. This summer, in addition to treating the bumps and bruises of active kids, I'm looking forward to falling asleep to the quiet of the woods and waking up to the sounds of birds. I'm passionate about the outdoors and I once spent a summer hiking the Appalachian Trail!
