January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Human trafficking is the exploitation of people through force, fraud, or coercion—and it can happen anywhere, often hidden in plain sight. Knowing the signs can save a life. Warning signs may include lack of control over personal identification, sudden changes in behavior, fearfulness, restricted communication, or someone speaking on their behalf.

Trafficking continues to be so widespread because it is a highly profitable crime, it is sustained by systems of oppression, and it often goes unnoticed due to a lack of awareness. Education is a powerful tool in prevention and protection.

Join us for our Grace @ Work event at The River Bible Church Church (31340 Olmstead Road, Rockwood MI) on “Giving Tuesday”, December 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Our desire for the day is to put our hands to work doing good and we’re hoping you’re ready to dig in with us! We will be making lunches for those being s*x trafficked on the streets of Detroit.

Anchored Hope Outreach is a faith-based street outreach ministry working to fight human trafficking by serving the needs of s*x trafficked victims. Their “boots on the ground” volunteers are found in southwest Detroit neighborhoods passing out food and hygiene kits, spending time in prayer, and connecting those in need with resources to heal and restore. As we pack lunches, they will speak to us about the ministry, and what we can do in our fight to stay aware, vigilant and on guard in our small part of the world. While we encourage you to bring your family to the event, please understand that the discussion may be “PG-13”.
