January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Human trafficking is the exploitation of people through force, fraud, or coercion—and it can happen anywhere, often hidden in plain sight. Knowing the signs can save a life. Warning signs may include lack of control over personal identification, sudden changes in behavior, fearfulness, restricted communication, or someone speaking on their behalf.
Trafficking continues to be so widespread because it is a highly profitable crime, it is sustained by systems of oppression, and it often goes unnoticed due to a lack of awareness. Education is a powerful tool in prevention and protection.
Our mission is to abolish s*x trafficking here in the city of Detroit. Visit EllisHouse313.com to learn more about our work and to review the ten signs of human trafficking everyone should know.
If you know of or suspect trafficking, you can always call or text the National Human Trafficking Hotline. This hotline is for reports of human trafficking in the United States, they take calls and texts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You may choose to remain anonymous when reporting.
