🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

June is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, recognize how far we've come, and continue supporting a world where everyone feels accepted and valued.

Pride is about love, identity, courage, and belonging—and a reminder of the importance of kindness, inclusion, and equality for all.

Today's Feature Friday is Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw! Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw is a pioneering American civil rights advocate, legal scholar, and a leading authority on critical race theory and Black feminist legal theory. She is globally renowned for coining the term "intersectionality" and founding the campaign to bring awareness to police violence against Black women and girls.
She holds prestigious dual appointments as the Isidor and Seville Sulzbacher Professor of Law at Columbia Law School and as a Distinguished Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law.

Intersectionality: Crenshaw introduced this term in 1989 to describe how various forms of discrimination—such as racism and sexism—intersect and overlap, creating unique and compounded challenges for individuals with multiple marginalized identities (e.g., Black women).

Critical Race Theory (CRT): She is one of the founding architects of Critical Race Theory, a framework that examines how systemic racism is embedded in legal and social institutions.

Thank you Dr. Crenshaw!

Sad news to share: Clarence B. Jones, civil rights activist who helped write MLK’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, died at age 95. Clarence B. Jones was one of the organizers of the 1963 March on Washington, where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the epic speech and helped push for passage of the Voting Rights Act. "Until his death Friday at an assisted living facility in Cupertino, California, Jones remained a keeper of King’s legacy and a vocal critic of attempts to undermine the gains African Americans have made since the civil rights battles in the 1960s." (NBC News).
In 2024, President Joe Biden awarded Jones the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Clarence B. Jones also taught at both Stanford University and the University of San Francisco, where he was a co-founder of the Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice. May you rest in peace Clarence B. Jones!
