General Society of Mayflower Descendants The General Society of Mayflower Descendants honors the 102 passengers who arrived on the Mayflower

Founded in 1897, The Mayflower Society, or General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Membership requires proof of lineage from one of the passengers who travelled to America on the Mayflower in 1620. Our educational mission includes telling the story of the Pilgrims as well as maintaining the highest standards possible for genealogy research into the

lineage of the Pilgrims. Our national headquarters is on the campus of the historic Mayflower Society House in downtown Plymouth, Massachusetts. We operate a genealogy research library at our Plymouth headquarters and publish the GSMD Silver Books, a series of genealogy books that follow the descendants of the Mayflower passengers. Thanks to the extraordinary idea and generosity of an anonymous donor from Florida, a $50,000 challenge has been established to inspire participation among Florida members to donate and support the Mayflower Meetinghouse Project.

Through June 30, all gifts committed by Florida members will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000, doubling the impact of every contribution.

This pilot initiative demonstrates the powerful role a member society can play in advancing a shared mission. As we learn from this effort, we look forward to exploring similar opportunities with other member societies in the future.

William Bradford wrote in "Of Plymouth Plantation" that "May 12 [1621] was the first marriage in this place." This was the marriage between Susanna (Jackson) White and Edward Winslow. Both had lost their spouses during the first winter. Susanna had two children, Resolved and Peregrine White, with her first husband William White. Edward had no children with his first wife Elizabeth (Barker) Winslow.
