On Tuesday, May 26th, the PCIS Gig Band, and 6th, 7th and 8th grade concert bands performed at their spring concert, directed by Alex Birger. The Gig Band kicked the night off with the jazz standard Tenor Madness, followed by a series of pop favorites, including Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne), Livinโ on a Prayer (Bon Jovi), and Bad Romance (Lady Gaga). The 6th grade treated us to four incredible songs, including A Prehistoric Suite with three distinct movements, through which the young musicians captured the unique traits of different dinosaurs ending in a battle of epic musical proportions!
The 7th grade took to the stage next, performing 5 songs, including the melodic At Twilight, which demonstrated this groups growing musicianship! The 7th grade closed their set with the energetic pop song Hand Clap, providing an opportunity for some audience participation. Finally, the 8th grade took the stage with a stirring performance of the Star Spangled Banner, and an audience standing in attention. The 8th graders went on to perform 3 more pieces, including Arabian Nights, a piece that might be described as captivating in its ability to transport the listener on an exotic adventure. In all, it was an amazing night of music that highlighted the growth and talent of these remarkable student musicians.
