On Thursday, May 28th, the PCIS Orchestra (6th, and 7th/8th) and Symphony Orchestra (which included students from the PCIS Concert Bands) performed their spring concert, directed by Alex Birger. The 6th grade Orchestra opened the evening with 4 pieces that highlighted their growing range and musicality, including the powerful Caryn Wieg and Neidhoild's Rock the City. The 7th and 8th grade students then took the stage to perform 3 pieces that demonstrated their own growth and growing repertoire, including Sunchasers and Dragon Chase both of which will be performed on their field trip next week. The final piece performed by the PCIS Symphony Orchestra, the Hallelujah Chorus arranged by Richard Meyer, showed how these students can collaborate, shifting from being the dominant melody to harmonizing with others. Congratulations, and thank you to the PCIS orchestra students and Mr. Birger for a remarkable night of music!

On Tuesday, May 26th, the PCIS Gig Band, and 6th, 7th and 8th grade concert bands performed at their spring concert, directed by Alex Birger. The Gig Band kicked the night off with the jazz standard Tenor Madness, followed by a series of pop favorites, including Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne), Livin’ on a Prayer (Bon Jovi), and Bad Romance (Lady Gaga). The 6th grade treated us to four incredible songs, including A Prehistoric Suite with three distinct movements, through which the young musicians captured the unique traits of different dinosaurs ending in a battle of epic musical proportions!
The 7th grade took to the stage next, performing 5 songs, including the melodic At Twilight, which demonstrated this groups growing musicianship! The 7th grade closed their set with the energetic pop song Hand Clap, providing an opportunity for some audience participation. Finally, the 8th grade took the stage with a stirring performance of the Star Spangled Banner, and an audience standing in attention. The 8th graders went on to perform 3 more pieces, including Arabian Nights, a piece that might be described as captivating in its ability to transport the listener on an exotic adventure. In all, it was an amazing night of music that highlighted the growth and talent of these remarkable student musicians.

🎓 🥁 Congratulations to all of the Plymouth Schools Marching Band Seniors and Class of 2026! 🎺 🎶
It has been so incredible volunteering alongside you and watching you grow over the last four years — as musicians, leaders, teammates, and people. From long rehearsals to game days, competitions, bus rides, and unforgettable performances, you’ve helped make this program something truly special.
We are so proud of everything you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see where life takes you next! And remember… now that you’re alumni, you can officially become members of PSMA! 😉 💙
