We are heartbroken to announce the passing of HLM/LM Stephen E. “Steve” McLaughlin, PER, PDDGER. Steve was initiated into the order in 1970, served as Exalted Ruler, and became District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler of the South District in 1985.
Steve was a great leader, and was always available with his assistance and advice. Steve always proudly participated in the lodge’s PER night, and his rendition of the Esteemed Leading Knight’s role was unparalleled.
We will truly miss him
To our absent member, may he rest in eternal peace.
The Lodge of Sorrow ritual will take place at 6pm.
Please see obituary below.
Stephen E. McLaughlin Obituary
Stephen E. McLaughlin of Plymouth passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.

Stephen was born in Boston on August 13, 1935, to the late Louis Michael and Margaret (Galvin) McLaughlin. Raised in South Boston, he graduated from Boston English High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly and honorably served his country.

After his discharge from the Navy, Stephen worked for General Motors before beginning a distinguished career with the Boston Fire Department in 1965. He served as a Boston firefighter until his retirement in 1989. During his years of service, he was selected to serve as a Federal Marshal on the Arson Task Force, working alongside the FBI and ATF. Upon retiring as a highly respected, dedicated, and hardworking firefighter, Stephen continued his commitment to public safety by working for the federal government as a fire and safety inspector.

Stephen was a proud and active member of the Plymouth Elks B.P.O.E., where he served as Past Exalted Ruler and District Deputy. He was also a member of American Legion Post 40 in Plymouth. An avid walker, Stephen became well known throughout Plymouth for his daily walks. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Stephen was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Margaret McLaughlin, and his brother, Edward McLaughlin.

He was the beloved husband of Regina M. (Mullen) McLaughlin of Plymouth; the loving father of Stephen G. McLaughlin and his wife, Jennifer, Tina McLaughlin, Patrick McLaughlin and his wife, Lauren, and Michael McLaughlin and his wife, Kelly, all of Plymouth. He was the cherished grandfather of Justin and his wife, Audra; Ashtyn and her husband, Corey; Jacob and his wife, Sophia; John and his wife, Autumn; Riley; Daniel; Bradan; Honorah and the late Evan. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Ryker, Adler, and Lana.

Stephen was the brother of Janet Ditmar; Michael McLaughlin and his late wife, Jayne; Kathleen Tringale and her husband, James; Dennis McLaughlin; and the late Edward McLaughlin. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Terri McLaughlin, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10 am. at St. Mary's Church, 313 Court Street, Plymouth. The burial will follow at Vine Hills Cemetery, Samoset Street, Plymouth.

Hello fellow Elks, happy Flag Day!
As an Elk it is part of our duty to celebrate Flag Day each and every year. We will be celebrating flag day tomorrow, June 15 at 6 PM at the Plymouth VFW on 7 Hills Rd.
With this year being the 250th anniversary of our great country, it would be great if I could see every one of our members attend tomorrow night’s program!
