For Darnell and his family, cancer completely changed their way of life. The financial strain, emotional toll of treatments and surgeries, and uncertainty of what each day might bring was overwhelming. They desperately needed a chance to reset, and their FPS Respite Experience last April gave them that opportunity.

Through shared meals, group activities, and quality time together, Darnell’s family was able to step away from the chaos of their cancer journey.

Since then, Darnell has been able to “ring the chemo bell” and “ring the radiation bell,” continuing his journey one day at a time. He aims to focus on the positives, especially when cheering on his son at his games. As a former high school athlete, Darnell knows firsthand how important it is to look into the stands and see your family cheering you on, which makes these moments together even more special.

Being part of the FPS Alumni community has also given Darnell's family more opportunities to make memories together. Earlier this month, they attended a Philadelphia Phillies game, and even reconnected with members of Jamal’s family! Next month, the family will attend their first Philadelphia Union game and look forward to enjoying a moment away from the challenges of cancer.

Talk about a night to remember at the ballpark! ⚾ From reconnecting with our FPS Alumni community to cheering the Phillies into extra innings, it was an evening full of great memories and even better company.

A heartfelt thank you to the Philadelphia Phillies and Commissioner’s Community Initiative Ticket Program for their generosity in making this special evening possible, and shoutout to Louis Cerone at Philadium for hosting a pregame happy hour for our families before the game!

The Phillies may not have taken the win, but the night was a home run with our FPS Alumni community! ❤️

This past Saturday, 36 dedicated runners proudly represented Team FPS at the Captain Bill Gallagher 10 Mile Island Run, raising an incredible $11,000 to provide Respite Experiences for families facing cancer.🏅👟
