Recent hailstorms in Clinton, SC pelted this Eastern Bluebird to the ground. If that wasn't bad enough, as the finders observed what had happened and went to its aid, a neighboring dog got to it first. Thankfully, they were able to get it from the dog quickly and promptly brought it into rehab.
Hopefully, just as things went from bad to worse, with time for healing and appropriate care, she will mend to ascend!

This little "wanderer", the Tennessee Warbler, was scared stiff on its release day, but it indeed was a happy Halloween on the wing!

Migration season always brings feathered faces that are not often seen into rehab. This Common Yellowthroat Warbler had a window collision that resulted in just enough head trauma to keep it from flying. After a few weeks of rest and recovery, a proper diet and flight conditioning, it was released back into the wind at Ascending Bird Sanctuary. The original intake video is in the comments.

Many thanks to the people who have compassion on the little injured birds and who do diligence to give them the best care by bringing them to a federally licensed songbird rehabilitator where they can have the best opportunity to mend and ascend!

It's the camping season as well as the nesting season! At this time of year, many baby birds are inadvertently separated from their parents when people pull their campers, RVs, horse trailers and boats out for some good nature recreation and don't realize they have some stowaways on board.

These weak and dehydrated little Carolina Wrens are just one of the numerous accidental separations that thankfully made it into rehab. Many babies are not brought into rehab because the finders are on vacation and don't want their time interrupted. While that is very understandable, the little birds lives are abruptly interrupted and will die apart from their parents. If you find yourself in this predicament, please call a federally licenced songbird rehabilitator and get the birds help asap. While vacations are a wonderful privilege, it shouldn't come at the price of helpless songbird lives.

So when you are packing and preparing to get out in the natural world, remember nature is truly all around you and someone's nest may be in your hands. Check all compartments, hitches and hatches to prevent a disruption in your life and the lives of the little birds. They don't want to be hitchhikers with a dead end. They want to fly.

Compassion makes the world a better place.🕊️

"As the Crow flies..."

It has been a long time since posting here. 2023 was the hardest year of my life, as well as a hard year for the Sanctuary. Suffering the loss of my first born son, I have been at a loss for words and inspiration. But the work of helping birds must go on...and has, but in silence. Honestly, the birds have always helped me in their own way. The lessons of birds speak to my soul. They are my little feathered muses as tiny tutors of freedom and faith.

This Crow was brought to me shortly after my son's passing by one of his local friends. It was found on the side of the road after being hit by a car. Crows happened to be my son's favorite bird and I held it close in my heart for recovery. After a long while in rehab, I figured New Year's Day would be the perfect time to release it back to its home territory. As we arrived at the original place of its finding, I could hear the family clan of Crows all around. A bit of my heart was carried on the wings of the Crow as it ascended up into the air to reunite with family and once again fly free.

Birds have always symbolized the eternal realm that seems just out of our reach, encompassing us all with wonder. Just as migration instinctively guides the birds, there is something inside the human, the soul, that calls us beyond. I believe with all my heart, love is stronger than death. Love is the most direct path to ascend the earth bound grief and loss.
Love transcends.
Crossing the Great Divide isn't as far as it seems...
In fact, "As the Crow flies", it's in our midst.
