Pleasantville Community Garden

Pleasantville Community Garden Founded in 2014 by 12 year old Devin Juros, this organization grows and gathers fresh food to help the food insecure of Westchester County, NY.

Since it was established in 2014, this non-profit organization has grown and gathered over 121,000 pounds of fresh produce that was distributed to local food pantries. Hundreds of local individuals and many groups have helped to build, plant, water, w**d, harvest, gather and deliver the food to help eradicate hunger in Westchester County. Our first harvest of the season at PCG. Today, our garden manager Tina walked us through the whys and hows of harvesting 🌱
Hop over to her IG acct for more tips and super easy pesto recipes using scapes!
These fresh beauties will be dropped off tomorrow morning at Second Chance Foods, Inc. to help feed those in need.

The seeds have been sown, the garlic has scapes and the beans are climbing 🌱
They would love a little rain, but otherwise can’t complain.

Exciting news to share from Reverend Julia at St. John's Episcopal Church, Pleasantville, NY. CAN YOU HELP!?👇👇

“We have received a grant from Trinity Church in New York City to help us pay for air conditioning in Russell Hall, our parish hall where we gather for coffee hour, run the Blossom Respite Ministry & Cafe, and host other community events and groups all week long.

As you know better than I do, the summer months are stifling in our beloved space. It is going to cost around $100,000.00 to install air conditioning and the electricity needed to run it. And this is where you come in: If we can raise $10,000.00, Trinity will cover the gap.”

It’s already HOT! 🥵
Give what you can, share with your friends, help our partners.
Stay C🥶🥶L and enjoy the weekend.

Happily surprised to actually see 🍏 on our community garden apple trees!
They’ve always struggled, and with the late frost this spring that so many orchards are struggling to recover from, it must’ve been that blessing from Rev. Julia that made the difference this year!

What’s new? LOTS!
Because we have deeper raised beds now, we can grow root veggies! Today, we planted onions and carrots, along with jalapeño peppers, squash, cucumber seeds, and a variety of beans
Because much of what we grow is donated to culturally diverse communities, we are also planting things like corn and beans and squash together, which are commonly referred to as “The Three Sisters.”
We recently received a grant from Westchester County Department of Planning and now have two new raised planting beds that are made of sustainable material as well as a new irrigation system for them.
What should we plant there? Please leave your comments below and let’s see what we can grow together to end food insecurity.
