The founding members of our club, were previously puppy raisers and leaders of the Alameda County Guide Dog Puppy Raising Club. When the Alameda County Club grew too large, the Pleasanton based Tri-Valley club was started by Ellen. Her daughter Joelle has been the assistant leader for the club since 2006. Club Members
Puppy Raisers: Volunteers who foster Labrador and Golden Retriever puppies bred by GDB for about a years time. While in the raisers home, the puppy will need to be taught basic obedience, good house manners and socialization skills. It is the puppy raisers responsibility to expose the puppy to the outside world, and help build it's confidence, so one day it will grow up to be a working guide dog. Puppy Sitter: Volunteers who care for GDB puppies when their raiser needs to go out of town, or when a breeder-1puppy needs someone to care for them temporarily. Club Volunteers: The club has a number of people who can not have a dog in their home, however they are able to support the club and GDB mission by assisting with fundraising activities, meetings, outings and other special events. Club Leaders: Ellen Aguirre/Joelle Cook

Location
The Pleasanton Puppy Raising Club is located in the East Bay of Northern California. Our weekly meetings vary by location and training needs, but are normally held in Pleasanton. We are located about 45 miles from the Guide Dog campus in San Rafael, CA.

Our annual trip down Candy Cane Lane in Pleasanton. It was a beautiful, and COLD night! All the pups were on their best behavior, and we had almost all our club members there too!
We ended the evening with a wonderful donation from a community member and hot chocolate. It just doesn't get better than this... hot coco and puppies!
Happy Holidays to all from the Pleasanton Puppy Raisers!

Congratulations to our fabulous raiser Kristi!
She will be returning her female black lab puppy, Tea, back to GDB to start her formal training. Kristi, raised Tea from beginning to end, something to be very proud of.
Tea is still intact, so will be looked at by the breeding staff to see if she has what it takes to become a new breeder.
Thank you team Tea for helping her be a successful pup….
The rest is up to her.
Cheers!

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is a nonprofit, charitable organization that was established in 1942 to provide a safe means of mobility for people who are blind and visually impaired. GDB is the largest Guide Dog school in the country, and continues its dedication to quality student training services and extensive follow-up support for graduates. Our programs are made possible through the teamwork of staff, volunteers and generous donors. GDB receives no government funds. Services are provided to students from the United States and Canada at no cost to them. We operate two training facilities (one is headquartered in San Rafael, California—20 miles north of San Francisco, another in Boring, Oregon—25 miles east of Portland), and have more than 2,000 volunteer puppy raising families throughout the Western states. More than 15,000 teams have graduated since our founding, and there are approximately 2,200 active guide dog teams currently in the field.
