In 2025 we change our name to Pleasant Prairie Police Appreciation Foundation (PPPAF). Mayer, who chaired the Pleasant Prairie Police Commission when we were founded said: “Our officers bravely and unselfishly serve and protect us on a daily basis. Now more than ever it is important that they know we admire and respect them and, as a community, we stand behind them.” Our Village has some of the finest Police Officers to be found. A group of concerned Pleasant Prairie residents has come together to create the Pleasant Prairie Police Appreciation Association (now Foundation). Our abbreviation is PPPAF. This tax free 501c3 charitable organization has the goal of sending a clear message to our Village officers that residents respect and support them. Volunteers joined the group and after talks with Chief David Smetana, decided to help the Village provide every officer with their Personal Body Camera and Personal Taser non-fatal weapon. We have continued that tradition - Pilot Test and hand off to the Village. In 2025, we supplied all officers and detectives with a ceramic insert to their body armor, providing excellent protection from high velocity threats such as AR 15 bullets. The Village of Pleasant Prairie has followed our "pilot" purchases by continuing to provide such equipment and innovative programs. We strive to protect our officers with the best equipment without a requiring a referendum, a model that has worked well since our inception in 2016. We also sponsor or assist the PPPD with officer recognition programs and community outreach, school visits and children programs.
