That's a wrap on Whale Run 2026. 🐋✈️
Three days. Three staging divisions. Dozens of aircraft, cargo loads, observation flights, and radio nets — all rehearsing the airlift that could one day be coastal Oregon's lifeline.
None of it happens without people who show up. So, thank you:

📦 Whale Run 2026 — Heavy Airlift

Eight rapid-deployment shelter systems loaded aboard a DC-3 for transport from Tillamook to Albany. These are the same shelters that served as our Command Center and Radio Room at Creswell.

Why it matters: in a Cascadia Subduction Zone event, ground routes to the coast will be severed. Larger aircraft like the DC-3 let us move bulk equipment — shelters, communications gear, command infrastructure — that won't fit in a light GA aircraft.

This is the backbone of a real response: light planes for distributed supply runs, heavy lift for the big loads. ODART trains on both.

🛩️ Whale Run 2026 - Day 3 Supply Airlift

Today our volunteers simulated emergency resupply to Oregon coastal communities cut off by a Cascadia Subduction Zone event. The mission: load donated food and supplies onto general aviation aircraft and fly them where ground transport can't reach.
On the ramp today:
✈️ GA pilots flying cargo runs
📦 Ground crews loading MREs & Ready-Set Meals
📻 Amateur radio operators staffing the Radio Room
🗂️ Dispatchers coordinating from the Command Center

Part of preparing for a Cascadia event is assuming the power is out — for days or weeks. So our volunteers deploy portable solar to keep radios charged and the command post running, completely self-sufficient.
Self-reliance isn't a backup plan out here. It's the plan.

Whale Run 2026 is underway, and the heart of the operation is right here: ODART's radio and command setup.
While our GA pilots and drone operators run damage-assessment flights, the command post coordinates every movement. Amateur radio operators provide the communications backbone — the same role they'd fill in a real Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake, when normal infrastructure is offline.

Over the next three days, ODART volunteers — pilots, HAM operators, cargo crews, and logistics teams — will rehearse the airlift that could one day be coastal Oregon's lifeline.

🌍 JUNE 12 — The earth shakes. Tsunami waves hit the coast. The Sim Cell goes live. Disaster declared.
👀 JUNE 13 — Red Flights launch. Aerial damage assessments roll in. Routes mapped. Hubs surveyed. Comms teams hot.
📦 JUNE 14 — Blue Flights fly. 8,000+ lbs of cargo, medical crews, emergency power — all routed to the communities that need it most.
This is what coordinated airlift looks like.
