Meet the real bosses running the show at Empowered Aging! 🐾 Today is , and we’re taking a moment to celebrate our official EA Furry Family.

Behind some of our hardworking advocates, ombudsman, and team members, there’s a loyal four-legged coworker making sure we take our screen breaks, stay happy, and keep our priorities straight (which usually means fetching treats).

Swipe through to meet the pups who keep our team's spirits high as we do our work across the Bay Area! ➡️🐶❤️

Who is keeping you company today? Drop a photo of your furry best friend (or grand-pup!) in the comments below so we can shower them with love! 👇

Every long-term care resident deserves a dedicated advocate in their corner.

At Empowered Aging, our Ombudsman staff work independently—completely unaffiliated with any facility—to ensure older adults receive the safe, high-quality, and dignified care they deserve.

Here is how our Ombudsman team serves residents and families:

Unannounced Visits: Making regular drop-ins to ensure quality facility standards.

Complaint Investigation: Confidentially investigating allegations of inadequate care, safety issues, or abuse.

Rights & Directives: Assisting with advance healthcare directives and official documentation.

Systemic Advocacy: Serving as a voice for policy changes at local, state, and national levels.

All Ombudsman services are 100% free of charge and completely confidential.

What an unforgettable day at Allen Temple Baptist Church’s 46th Annual Health Fair! 🌟

We had the absolute best time meeting everyone and spreading the word about Empowered Aging and our programs. The energy was unmatched, but a few moments made the day extra special:

✨ Meeting a real-life Wizdom Warrior! 💪👑
✨ Raising funds for our Dave & Buster’s fundraiser for a sweet girl who shared her birthday with the fair! 🎂🎉
✨ Connecting with amazing senior advocates and potential resource partners working to make a difference.

Huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. We’re already counting down to next year! ❤️

Seniors build our communities, hold our histories, and enrich our lives—yet their rights and dignity in long-term care are too often overlooked.

This National Senior Citizens Day, Empowered Aging honors the thousands of older adults across Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano Counties. Every day, our advocates work to ensure that growing older means staying protected, heard, and recognized as a vital resource in our neighborhoods.

Three quick ways to celebrate a senior today:

Connect: Call an older relative or neighbor just to listen to their story.

Support: Check in on a local senior to see if they need help with errands or technology.

Advocate: Join our mission to protect resident rights and combat elder abuse. Read more about how in our blog>>>https://empoweredaging.org/2026/08/20/senior-citizens-day/

Did you know that social isolation in care facilities can carry health risks equivalent to smoking 15 ci******es a day? In many small, six-bed care facilities, structured daily activities are not required, leaving residents facing profound loneliness and a lack of connection.

To change this, Empowered Aging is launching our new Resident Enrichment Program!

Powered by a Three Valleys Community Grant, our team is sending a Mobile Activities Coordinator alongside volunteers into select Tri-Valley facilities.

How we're enriching residents' lives:
Offering tailored activities including book clubs, karaoke, chair yoga, pet therapy, and games. Reaching 552 older and dependent adults across 92 six-bed facilities. Expanding on over 50 years of Ombudsman advocacy to actively bring joy and connection to long-term care residents.

Want to learn how we are transforming elder care—or discover how you can get involved as a volunteer?

Advocacy doesn't happen in a vacuum. At Empowered Aging, we closely follow national leaders like National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care (Consumer Voice) because, like us, they are dedicated champions for residents in long-term care facilities.

In our latest blog post, we break down key updates from Consumer Voice's latest newsletter that every resident, family member, and elder advocate should know about:

🎙️ New Resources & Podcasts on Guardianship: Learn how new tools and podcasts are helping families protect resident autonomy and explore less restrictive alternatives.

🚨 Crackdowns on Understaffed Nursing Homes: How states across the country are enforcing stricter oversight and holding facility operators accountable for dangerous staffing shortages.

👟 The ROAR Walk for Long-Term Care: A grassroots movement uniting communities around Respect, Opportunity, Advocacy, and Reform.

Knowledge is power when it comes to defending elder rights!

Big updates are happening at Empowered Aging! We are thrilled to announce that a new cohort of interns will be joining our team at the end of August. Head over to our blog to meet the entire Fall intern team, read about our rare returning second-year interns, and see how these students are advocating for long-term care residents.

Our incoming students join us from Cal State East Bay (CSUEB), bringing fresh energy and dedication to our Ombudsman Services across Solano, Contra Costa and Alameda counties (including our very first BSW intern placement!). They join a national cohort of students representing universities across the country—from Arizona State and LSU to Rutgers, Cleveland State, and the University of the Pacific.
