Our Labor Day closing….

Welcome September! This month brings “Food for Fines”! Pleasant Grove Public Library is collecting canned or boxed food during the month of September - $1.00 in fines will be waived for each item up to $10 per library card.

Wednesday, September 2nd at 10am is Medicare 101.

Wednesday, September 9th at 10am our Poetry Club will meet and discuss the poetry “Dog Show” by Billy Collins.

Pleasant Grove Public Library will be closed Saturday, September 5th thru Monday, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday. We will reopen Tuesday, September 8th at 8am.

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

Congratulations to River Rainey! River received a Summer Reading 2026 “UnEarth A Story” award. Looking forward to Summer 2027 as we will celebrate “Mysteries at the Library “! Thank you again to all our Summer Reading participants and all our wonderful winners.

Join us for our August Poetry Club gathering as we explore John Lithgow’s The Poet’s Corner: The One-and-Only Poetry Book for the Whole Family.

Actor, performer and lifelong lover of verse, Lithgow brings together a wonderfully approachable selection of poems from some of the English language’s most memorable poets. The Poet’s Corner reminds us that poetry need not be mysterious or intimidating-it can be funny, moving, musical, surprising and deeply human.

We’ll read and discuss selections from the collection, share our reactions, and consider what makes certain poems stay with us long after the final line.
