Save Malibu Lagoon

Save Malibu Lagoon Malibu Lagoon is at risk of destruction of important habitat for endangered fish, rare butterflies and more! You can help. Thankyou!

Send letters to the local papers, to Governor Brown and donate! Under the guise of “restoration” some misguided state agencies plan to wipe out and rebuild the west side of Malibu Lagoon. Destruction of habitat like this is not restoration. The charming bridges trail will be demolished. Donations are needed to support a legal defense.

Not a success.

There is growing concern over recent and dramatic erosion happening at Surfrider Beach and the historic Adamson House—considered a crown jewel of Malibu’s coastline. After a century-old palm was felled

All surfers and others concerned about this:

You ought to come to the next Governing Board meeting of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission.

They - and their private partner, The Bay Foundation, which pulls the puppet strings for the GOVERNMENT commission - will have their next meeting on Thursday, June 20 beginning at 9:30 am at Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey. Arrive at 9 am so you can sign up for public comment and partake in govt funded bagels & coffee.

They need to hear from you who KNOW what caused this tragedy.

Now....the iconic surf wall at Surfrider Beach is about to fall. Andy Lyon documents what he predicted in 2010-2012. Surfers are livid that the Malibu Lagoon project that created a deep bathtub-like lake (which was not present historically) in the State's fake restoration was allowed to go forward - resulting in this...

The latest in why a Frankenstein phony restoration of a coastal wetland ecosystem is not a good idea:

Erosion caused by failed Malibu Lagoon fake restoration project. Erosion is cutting in to the historic Adamson House property.

The Bay Foundation & Coastal Conservancy & Heal the Bay people and their consultants do NOT know what they are doing on these projects.

Thanks to Sam Schuchat at the State Coastal Conservancy and to Mark Gold & Shelley Luce from Heal the Bay and to Tom Ford & Mark Abramson from The Bay Foundation for this mess.

Oh - and thanks to Governor Brown for not being willing to stop this tragedy from happening.

2018 - the summer the 2012 bulldozing came home to roost.

Dead fish everywhere at Malibu Lagoon. Fake restoration. .

Thanks to Andy Lyon for posting these photos.

Surfer legend Andy Lyon posted a photo today from Malibu's Nextdoor. Now there is an article written by the Malibu Times. There are way more dead fish showing up in Malibu Lagoon than BEFORE their fake restoration project that The Bay Foundation likes to call a "success."

And one of the state parks' officials dares to say there will be an investigation??? Into the very project his department carried out which led to today's tragedy?

Millions of public dollars were spent for this destructive project that bulldozed EVERYTHING and ruined habitat for several rare and imperiled species. It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature. 🙁

An estimated "several hundred dead fish" were found floating in the Malibu Lagoon on Thursday morning, following a mass die-off that was being investigated by California State Parks scientists this

In honor of all of those who knew in 2010 and still know today that the Malibu Lagoon project was NOT a restoration, but rather a destruction/dredging/bulldozing & construction project - a Frankenstein of the highest order - here is the order that told the truth from the Judge:

"The harm that would result from the project approved by the Coastal Commission would be severe.

The Court finds the project would damage various types of flora and fauna, several of which are endangered.

Birds in the area, some of which are endangered, would be deprived of food sources found in the lagoon.

Petitioners have shown to the satisfaction of the Court that many species and their habitat would not recover.”

- Order from The Honorable Ernest H. Goldsmith, Judge of the Superior Court - May 24, 2011

Here's a photo from 1926 - before this place became a piggy bank for (SOME!) environmental groups and govt. agencies where they could perform their experiments.

As one of the "others" alluded to in this article (strongly opposing the bulldoze-Malibu Lagoon project) - I'm glad to see the Malibu Surfing Association finally coming to its senses - now concluding after five years that the fake restoration project was a failure.

Most of the long-time surfers who surf Malibu/Surfrider KNEW it would be a problem - courageous people like Andy Lyon, Alden Marin, Steve Dunn, Athena Nova Davis-Shlien,Steve Littlejohn, Matt Rapf, David R. Olan, Pete Mayotte, Hamish Patterson, Ian Bryant, Mike Moss and others - spoke out against this debacle.

Three of those who are responsible (Clark Stevens, Suzanne Goode, Kara Kemmeler) for the destruction of Malibu Lagoon and killing of thousands of plants and animals in the summer/autumn/winter of 2012-2013. They were meeting this morning with the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission Governing Board to give cover for a similarly destructive plan they want to do at the Ballona Wetlands.

Yes, the plants that were "installed" by The Bay Foundation after they bulldozed the place to look like a moonscape, are growing. But the MAIN reason that Mark Gold, Mark Abramson and others said this project had to be done was because of all of the algae atop the water. Well, there is more of that than ever! These pics were taken on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.

For the first time in decades, Los Angeles media this week reported, an adult endangered southern steelhead trout was spotted in the Malibu Lagoon channel, an event long dreamed of by environmentalists and fishermen. But the sighting by members of two government agencies and a non-profit foundation…
