Humans have this incredible ability that separates them from all other living organisms. We have this ability to associate, to commiserate, to feel things on such a level that we can love and sacrifice for strangers, simply because they draw breath like us.
Every year since September 11, 2001, Americans, humans, have tried to find a way to honor the memory of the men and women who perished on that day, as well as those who have passed since. Politicians, journalists, artists, first responders, and so many more all try to find the right words, to say something meaningful, something genuine. We try to reach out into the air to show those who are still suffering and still in pain from this day that we suffer and are in pain with them. We also try to speak into whatever comes after life to say how we feel to those who faced such terror with bravery and perserverance.
There are no words that can ever be said to do this. But, as we are incredible creatures, us humans, we can do something more meaningful: we can remember. If we remember the men and women, the sons and daughters, the mothers and fathers, the brothers and sisters, the beings that were once us but now have transcended into something different, than they will never be forgotten. So long as we remember, they will live forever.
Today, we remember. Tomorrow, we will remember. We will never, ever forget.
God Bless America.
