Clinton County Historical Society/Plattsburg, Missouri The Clinton County Historical Society was organized May 13, 1969. CCHS purchased the home in 1976 for it to be a historical museum. It was wild country! and Mrs.

The Riley-Carmack Museum is a two-story East Lake-style estate home built in the 1880s for George Riley, a prominent banker residing in Plattsburg and his family. His daughter, Alma married Ward Carmack who was employed at the local pharmacy. They raised their family in the home as well. Many of the artifacts belonged to the couple, and others have been donated by various members of the community

whose ancestors were founding fathers of the county. Clinton County was established in 1833, Plattsburg in 1835. There is a coat and gloves fashioned of bear hide that is on display. The bears were shot where the courthouse now stands. During one of the first winters, there were over 30 bears shot on that particular site. The first settlers were Mr. John Livingston.
