Slow your pace to take in the scenic beauty on a bicycle ride following the historic Dinky Railroad. The Dinky, a narrow gauge train that operated between Fennimore and Woodman from 1878 to 1926, is historically significant because of its longevity - serving the area longer than other 3-foot lines in Wisconsin - and for its convenience of connecting the region to other rail lines.

The rails have long been removed and the land deeded back to surrounding landowners, but historic markers on the roads following the former rail line depict the Dinky’s important history for Southwest Wisconsin. Bring your bicycle or rent one from either the Fennimore Railroad Museum or Dinky General Store in Woodman to ride the 16-mile route following both gravel and paved roads. The route follows the Green River in a valley of crops and tree-covered hillsides.

Starting at the Fennimore Railroad Museum, head north on Hwy. 61 and turn left on Green Valley Road. Turn right on Cty. K and make sure to stop to read the historic marker in Werley. At Hwy. 133, turn right to head toward Woodman. Stop at the Woodman Recreation Area for a break to see where the Big Green River you’ve been following empties into the Wisconsin River - there is also a nice beach at this location. Woodman is the last stop for the Dinky line.
