The Platteville Community Arboretum is a community resource open and welcoming to everyone. Just as biodiversity of flora and fauna is the key to a strong and resilient ecosystem, we believe an organization composed of diverse identities, experiences and opinions allows us to better carry out our mission of connecting our community to nature. We encourage and welcome the involvement of people from all walks of life to join us in our mission.

Be Aware. The trail is starting to get a new sealcoat. This means parts of the path will be closed off to all trail users for a few days at a time.
Please be respectful of this process and stay off the trail where the sealcoating is happening.

Thank you to the Platteville Community Fund for awarding the PCA a grant!

It's from the Elinore Loveland Trust of the Platteville Community Fund for over $4,700 to go towards Bridge Restoration and Trail Counters. The first picture is showing Robin receive it in the Middle School library yesterday.

This is another huge step to help us with the Valley-to-Eastside Expansion Project. If you remember, we received a grant in November from Clarence Gribble Trust of the Platteville Community Fund for Bridge Restoration of the larger bridge on the Expansion Trail near Eastside Road. Earlier this month, the Monday crew started on it by replacing the lumber on the bridge that goes over the creek. Photos 2 through 8 show the work.

The last two pictures show how the second bridge is in disrepair. The grant awarded yesterday will help us get the materials from Eastman Cartwright Platteville to make it start looking like the bigger bridge.

Milkweed post! Last week, when it was 50 degrees (remember that!?), about 100 Westview 1st graders came out to the trail to plant the milkweed they had been growing in their classrooms. Volunteers Kecia and Connie joined Clay and Don for this event, and Dan F. also taught a little about our trail.
Clay also showed them where the local beaver has gnawed away at a tree, and where a new lodge is shaping up near the bridge.
Hopefully the monarch butterflies will like this new spot for milkweed.

What a day! The weather was beautiful, and the company of walkers was phenomenal. My two young helps were very thoughtful about placing these amazing creations with the other rocks. Be sure to take a stroll and check out the new additions (oh, and enjoy the trail, too)! πŸ₯°πŸšΆπŸΎβ€β™€οΈ

In November 2025, the Platteville Public Library hosted a session in which our youth patrons painted rocks for our trail. Well, the weather has finally shifted and it is time to add them to their new home!

This Saturday, April 25, at 12pm (weather permitting), PCA volunteer Kecia will be adding them to the 1st Grade Rock Snake located at the round gazebo shelter headed toward Belmont.

If you are in the area, please feel free to join Kecia on her trek. The walk starts at the Valley Road and Mineral St trailhead.

If you are not able to join her, that’s okay, but be sure to take your own trek and check them out!
