Platteville Area Senior Support (PASS) is a fundraising organization, utilizing these funds to support programs and activities for seniors in the Platteville, WI area. Its main focus is the Platteville Senior Center (facility rental plus support for transportation, programs, and activities).
While seeing grants from wherever practical, PASS’s primary fundraising is local, seeking memberships, donations, sponsorships, and/or other assistance from organizations and individuals in the area.
PASS is a 501(c)(3) organization; as such, support provided to PASS is tax deductible to the extent allowed by applicable statutes and regulations.
Mission
1. To provide support to the Platteville Senior Center and other senior activities through fundraising.
2. To facilitate the education of seniors in the Platteville, WI area about aging gracefully, including those just ‘entering’ the senior category and are still very active.
3. To raise awareness of the importance of caring for and about seniors.
Why We Care
The whole country is facing a rapidly increasing senior population and the issues that come with this, especially in rural areas. The national percentage of seniors who are 65+ is about 25%. In Platteville, the number of people who are 50 or older is more than 2,600. This means that people enter the “senior stage” earlier than before and have widely varying and changing needs. Some need more social connections not only with their peers, but other age groups; some need more entertainment; some need a place to hang out; some need intellectual challenges, etc. All need activities geared to their abilities; this is not necessarily a function of age.
PASS’s function is not to provide services or programs, but to assist in making them available.
We want to: help create a more positive senior community, empower seniors’ ability to live a better life, increase social connectedness, educate seniors with updated medical and legal information, and enhance multigenerational communication.
