Cub Scouts is a year-round program, and we understand that families have seasons when they can participate more and seasons when they can’t.

Come when you can. Miss when you need to. Jump back in when life slows down.

And Scouting doesn’t only happen at Scout meetings. Many Adventures include things kids are already doing with their families like being active, spending time outdoors, helping at home, exploring their community and learning new skills.

Our Fall Family Campout is coming, so it’s time to settle one of the most important questions in Scouting:

🥓 Campfire breakfast

Interested in Pack 4248? You don’t have to wait for the “perfect” time to join!

Cub Scouts is a year-round program, and we know families are busy. If soccer, football, dance, or another activity has most of your calendar right now, that’s okay! Join now and participate when you can, whether that means jumping in today or becoming more active later in the year.

Even better, Scouting isn't limited to what happens at a den or Pack meeting. Many rank Adventures include things Scouts can do with their families, and some requirements can overlap with things your child is already doing, including sports, physical activity, outdoor activities, family projects and more.

Ready to officially join Pack 4248?

Go to BeAScout.org, enter your ZIP code, select Cub Scouts, find Pack 4248, and choose Apply Now. You'll create or sign into a my.Scouting account, complete your Scout's application, and pay the applicable registration fees online.

Once you're registered, your Scout can start working toward the Adventures required for their grade-level rank, and your family can help complete and track eligible activities outside of meetings, too.

Wondering what happens next to the monarchs we tagged today?

Monarch Watch tags are not GPS trackers, so we won’t be able to watch the butterflies move on a live map. However, if one of our monarchs is spotted elsewhere along its migration route or its tag is recovered at the overwintering grounds in Mexico, its unique tag number will connect that discovery back to our event.

Save our tag numbers so you can check for them later:

Monarch Watch generally publishes recoveries from the United States, Canada and northern Mexico in March or April. Recoveries from central Mexico are usually posted in April or May after the information has been verified.

To check our monarchs:

1. Visit the Monarch Watch Tagging Program page: https://monarchwatch.org/tagging/
2. Scroll to “Recoveries of Tagged Monarchs.”
3. Open the recovery lists for the 2026 tagging season when they become available.
4. Search the lists for one of our complete tag numbers.

Only a small percentage of tagged monarchs are ever found and reported, so we may not receive an update, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t complete their journey. We’ll keep watching the recovery lists and will share the news if one of Pack 4248’s monarchs is discovered!

🦋 **Tomorrow, your Scout could catch a monarch that ends up in Mexico.**

And that’s pretty incredible.

Tomorrow (3 PM; Platte Ridge Park) our Scouts will get hands-on with monarch migration, carefully catching wild monarchs, recording information, placing a tiny research tag on them, and releasing them to continue their journey south.

That little butterfly your Scout holds could travel **hundreds or even thousands of miles** after leaving their hands.

This isn’t just learning about conservation. **They get to take part in it.**

A monarch butterfly wing! In honor of our butterfly tagging event later this month on the 19th! We will have a great time tagging butterflies before they make their journey south.
