This is an interesting event at our sister library, AARLC, which is a collaboration with Wikemedia, the Wikipedia parent organization. As Google has now gone completely AI, we need human-managed information sources like Wikipedia more than ever. Chatbots often use Wikipedia as a source anyway, so why not simply use wikipedia.com?

Congratulations to WR Friends volunteer Sheila Devine on receiving a Volunteer of the Year award from the Plantation Women's Club, presented by Mayor Nick Sortal!

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Cw4XkjFcT/

Plantation has a robust roster of volunteer organizations and a luncheon Saturday gave everyone a chance to honor their volunteers of the year. The GFWC Plantation Woman’s Club sponsored the event, at Volunteer Park.
The winners were:
Bernadette Maze, Friends of Helen B. Hoffman Library; Sheila Devine, Friends of West Regional Library;
Donna McCormick, Plantation Acres Women’s Club; Erika Nakamura, Plantation Garden Club; Mike Reik, Hawthorne Village; Candy Coleman, City of Plantation Fire Department; Paul Henry Bernard, Kiwanis Club of Plantation; Mary Lou Peluso, Plantation Historical Society; Yvonne Austin, Plantation Sewing Guild; Shirley Wiggin, GFWC Plantation Woman’s Club.
One interesting moment came when past winners of the above awards were asked to stand, and about half the room stood, displaying yet another example of the depth of volunteerism we have in this city.
Thank you to all. We appreciate you.

In recognition of the USA’s 250th anniversary, Friends of the Library (Formerly Young At Art) wants to tell you about the interesting historical music program being given at the YAA branch on Thursday, March 19 at 10:30 AM. The program is for youth as well as adults; a fun family experience. The program is proudly sponsored by Friends of YAA Library.

Join us in the exploration of America's diverse music and its multicultural roots. Take a journey through time and celebrate the multicultural nature of the music of the United States. Matthew Sabatella performs the songs and tells the stories that connect traditional folk music, spirituals, fiddle tunes, Appalachian music, ragtime, blues, rhythm and blues, jazz, country, bluegrass, and rock & roll. Immigrants, both voluntary and involuntary, have been carrying their musical traditions to the New World since before the United States became an independent nation. New songs and styles emerged from encounters among diverse people and the unique American experience itself. As America changed, grew, and pushed its boundaries, so did the music. Beautiful projected images enhance this fun and unique experience. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
Registration is recommended. To register, click the link below.
