South Florida Storm Chasers We are a storm chasing group from South Florida that chases everything from dust devils to typhoons. Weather. Research. Life.

Hello All!

While we didn't post anything before, we'd like everyone to know that we did NOT actively chase Hurricane Irma due to the fact that it was threatening our own homes and properties, so instead we chose to hunker down and protect our homes and property.

If you are trying to reach us, please consider texting the number on the page, as cell service is spotty at best so we are unable to see or respond to some messages.

Thank you!

03/29/2017

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the 3 storm chasers, Kelley Williamson, Randall Yarnell, and Corbin Jaeger, who were killed last night in an accident while chasing.

Hurricane Matthew Aftermath and Impacts Update by chaser Morgan Guigon:

We are currently in Singer Island, FL documenting damage after going up to Stuart documenting damage and talking to locals earlier this morning. So far, damage has been limited to moderate tree damage with very minor structural damage. However, more extensive tree and some moderate structural damage was reported in Jupiter Island, so we will be heading towards that area shortly. We remain available for media contact as we continue to document and cover Matthew's aftermath across Palm Beach and Martin counties.

Media contact is available by calling or texting (954) 550-0232 or emailing us.

10/07/2016

We will have 1 chaser, Morgan Guigon, leaving early tomorrow (around 5:30 am) to cover Hurricane Matthew's aftermath in areas north of West Palm Beach, Florida. He should be in place and documenting Matthew's impacts by 7-8am and will be immediately available for media contact.

Expect multiple Periscope and Facebook live streams during the day tomorrow and the true effect of Matthew is documented.

10/06/2016

We do not have any chasers actively chasing Hurricane Matthew, this being due to its impacts being close to home for all of our chasers.

However, we will have 1 chaser, Morgan Guigon, out tomorrow morning across Broward and Palm Beach counties documenting the post-storm effects of Matthew. He will be available for media contact during the next 2 days via the phone and email on this page.

Morning Chase Update

Things are looking less likely for severe weather across South Florida than last night, with Colin's moisture being more consolidated than previously thought.

Heavy rains and gusty winds will still be likely throughout the day across South Florida, but the potential for tornadoes has gone down, except for in stronger squalls. Waterspout potential along the Atlantic coast is high however with any cumulus lines or thunderstorms that do set up.

The chase has not been called off, but instead has been delayed to allow for conditions to play out a big more before a decision is made.

06/05/2016

We will have one team out chasing the outer bands of TD Three, and soon to be Tropical Storm Colin tomorrow into early Tuesday across the Southern Florida Peninsula.

Heavy rain and gusty winds are the main threats, but an isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out with the stronger storms.

We will also be livestreaming the entire chase from beginning to end on Periscope, and you can find the link when it's live on our Twitter page.

Statement from South Florida Storm Chasers CEO Morgan Guigon on the Resignation of Christopher Estep.

"I was in contact with Chris for the past few days as he chased in Mississippi under my guidance and was blown away by how good he was getting at chasing. Chris was able to successfully intercept the Scooba, MS tornado, and was the only SFLSC chaser that day to see a tornado. Upon return from his chase, Chris informed me that he would like to discuss possibly allowing him to chase only in his home state of Ohio, but as a member of South Florida Storm Chasers, citing car issues and family worries as his reasons. I was unable to grant that request, but instead offered him a subsidy each month to go towards payments on a new vehicle, along with allowing him to keep 100% of this year's tours proceeds. Earlier today Chris informed me that he could not accept my offer, and that he would be resigning from the company, effective immediately. While disappointed in this turn of events, I do wish Chris the best in any and all of his future endeavors and hope that we'll possibly be able to meet up under the mesocyclone someday."

Announcement: Resignation of Head of Chaser Development and Tour Division, Christopher Estep

It is with deepest hearts that we reluctantly announce the resignation of our Head of Chaser Development and our newly launched Tour Division, Christopher Estep. Christopher Estep joined the company earlier this year when South Florida Storm Chasers acquired Westside Tornado Chasers and he was immediately given the position of Head of Chaser Development and was named our lead Tour operator. He went on his first chase as a member of South Florida Storm Chasers this past week in Mississippi, witnessing the Scooba, MS wedge tornado as it passed by the town.

After returning home from the chase, Christopher Estep contacted our CEO to notify him that he would be unable to chase any longer outside of his home state of Ohio. Despite our best offer to help him obtain a new vehicle with company money, Christopher Estep decided to step down and resign from his position in South Florida Storm Chasers.

We wish Christopher Estep all the best in his future endeavors and hope that he succeeds in chasing in his home state of Ohio. We hope to eventually run into him from time to time and thank him for his contributions to the company during his time.
