April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day 🐕‍🦺💙

At ASA Service Dogs, we work with families who are navigating life with autism—and we’ve seen firsthand how much the right dog, trained with purpose, can help.

Autism service dogs can support in so many ways, including:
• Deep pressure therapy and grounding tasks to help calm the nervous system and deescalate meltdowns
• Interruption and redirection tasks
• Creating routine, structure, and predictability
• Increasing confidence in public settings
• Providing a sense of responsibility and growing independence
• Encouraging communication and connection
• And of course… being a steady, judgment-free best friend 🐾

Many of these dogs also learn to recognize early signs of stress—stepping in before things escalate.

And just as important—this isn’t just life-changing for her boy or her girl, it supports the entire family.

It’s not an overnight process, and it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution—but when it’s the right fit, it can truly open doors.

The photos shared here are a few of the ASD teams placed through our nonprofit over the years—families and dogs growing together, learning together, and building something really special.

We’re grateful every day to be a small part of these journeys 💙🐾

If a dog has made an impact in your life—or you’ve seen the difference a service dog can make—we’d love to hear about it👇

🚨 Exciting Announcement!! 🐐🐕‍🦺

We’re so excited to officially share something we’ve been working on behind the scenes…

In addition to our highly trained service dogs, ASA Service Dogs is now offering fully trained Service Goats!!

Yes—you read that right.

Service goats bring a unique set of skills to the table, including:
• Natural terrain stability and balance support 🏔️
• Gentle grounding presence
• Highly motivated food-driven task work (seriously… very motivated)
• And of course… unmatched personality

Our team has been carefully developing this program to expand accessibility and provide alternative options for individuals who may benefit from a different type of working partner.

We are currently accepting a limited number of applications for our first group of Service Goat placements. More details coming soon!

APRIL FOOLS 😂🐐

We’ll stick to the dogs—but you’ve gotta admit… a service goat would be pretty great 😆

Such a fun day for our ASA Service Dogs team!! 🐕‍🦺

We were invited out to TigerTown to spend time with the Detroit Tigers players and coaches, and it was a great experience all around! We brought a mix of our therapy dogs and service dogs in training, and they absolutely loved all the attention.

It was really special being able to bring the dogs in and give the players a chance to relax, reset, and just enjoy some time with them—especially while being away from home.

A big thank you to the Detroit Tigers organization for having us, and to our incredible ASA volunteers who made it all possible. We’re so grateful to share these moments with the community ❤️🐾

Joy is going home soon! 🐾💛

We are so excited that Joy will be going home with her new favorite person in just a couple of weeks! Right now, they’re practicing together at class as Joy’s new person learns how to communicate and become a rockstar handler!

This team is already looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to officially celebrate their “gotcha” day soon! 🎉🐕‍🦺

Please join us in giving a BIG welcome to Sandy, our newest ASA pup, and to Colton and his wonderful family, who are stepping into the incredible role of puppy raisers! 💛🐶

Right now, Sandy is already hard at work on her desensitization training — and Colton is helping her face off with the Abominable Snowman! ⛄🐾 These early experiences help Sandy learn to be confident, big, and brave as she prepares for her future role as a service dog.

We’re so excited to watch this amazing team grow together. Raising a future service dog is no small task, and we’re beyond grateful to Colton’s family for opening their hearts and home.

Stay tuned — we can’t wait to share all of Sandy’s adventures and milestones with you! 🐾💫

🌟 Team Spotlight: Kenzie & Atlas 🌟

I’d like to take a moment to highlight one of our favorite service dog teams: Kenzie Carlson and her service dog, Atlas 🐾💛

Kenzie received Atlas from ASA Service Dogs four years ago, and we’ve loved watching them grow together ever since! Not only do they shine as a working team, but they also give back so much to our program 🙌

✨ Kenzie and her family volunteer with ASA fundraising and at community events.

✨ They serve as puppy raisers, giving program dogs-in-training a loving home environment.

✨ Her mom, Tammy, faithfully attends our puppy raiser classes and works side by side with Kenzie to help raise and train dogs that go on to change lives!

✨ Kenzie has also shared her knowledge publicly — giving presentations and spreading education about cerebral palsy and service dogs.

Currently, they are raising Joy, one of our program pups, and they’ve raised several dogs before who have since graduated and are now working service dogs in their forever homes! 🙌

We are so grateful to Kenzie, Atlas, and their family for everything they contribute!! If anyone is considering applying for a program service dog through ASA, or interested in becoming a puppy raiser, Kenzie is a wonderful resource. She’s happy to answer questions and share her firsthand experience.

Please join me in celebrating Kenzie & Atlas — an incredible team and an inspiring part of the ASA family! 🎉🐕💙
