Surgery day for Apache. Dr. Albin will remove both eyes to relieve the pressure caused by extra tissue growth around the eyes. He’s lucky to have such a good seeing eye coyote (Kai). ❤️‍🩹

🐺 The reality of caring for carnivores isn’t always pretty, but it’s an important part of their welfare.

While this might not be the kind of photo everyone wants to see, it represents something incredibly important to us: allowing our animals to express their natural instincts and behaviors.

In the wild, carnivores don’t eat neatly prepared meals from stainless steel bowls. They tear, pull, chew, and work for their food. Providing large portions of meat and bone allows our animals to engage in these natural feeding behaviors, offering both physical activity and mental stimulation.

Providing a good quality of life means more than just food, water, and shelter. It means creating opportunities for our animals to behave as naturally as possible. They are still wild animals; their instincts don’t disappear simply because they live behind a fence.

Thank you Honey Smack Farms for the donations. 🙌❤️

Night time temps are starting to dip below 60 which means some animals need to come inside. Good thing our tortoises are food motivated. 😆❤️
