Say hello to Jim Harger, one of our amazing Wheelhouse Hosts!

Thanks to BED START we now have patio furniture outside The Wheelhouse, giving guests and neighbors a place to sit, talk, and connect in the fresh air.

This is what The Wheelhouse is all about: creating community, welcoming all, loving all... and enjoying a little sunshine along the way.

Thank you, Jim and all our Wheelhouse Hosts, for helping make The Wheelhouse such a warm and inviting place!

When Compassion Meets Coordination: Supporting Our Unhoused Neighbors Through Partnership

At The Wheelhouse, we often say that relationships change everything. Over the past year, we have seen that truth lived out through the growing partnership between our Wheelhouse Hosts, Metro Relief, and City Missions as we work together to support our unhoused neighbors in Plano.

Many individuals experiencing homelessness find their way to The Wheelhouse seeking food, conversation, or simply a safe and welcoming place to be seen and known. Our Wheelhouse Hosts are often the first point of connection. They listen, build trust, and walk alongside people with dignity and care. But meeting the deeper needs of housing, recovery, employment, and stability requires specialized support.

That is where our partners come in.

Through collaboration with Metro Relief and City Missions, individuals who connect with our hosts can now access professional case management services. These organizations bring experienced outreach teams who work directly with people experiencing homelessness to assess their needs and create a path forward.

Case management can include helping someone obtain identification documents, connect to medical care, find recovery programs, pursue employment opportunities, or move toward stable housing. Instead of simply addressing immediate needs, this approach focuses on long-term transformation and restoration.
This partnership is already bearing fruit.

Recently, one woman who had been spending time around The Wheelhouse connected with our hosts. Through the relationship built with our volunteers, Metro Relief was able to step in and help guide her into a sober living program. Just this week, she sent a message expressing deep gratitude for the community that cared enough to walk with her toward a new beginning.

Stories like this remind us that meaningful change happens when compassion, relationships, and coordinated support come together.
The Wheelhouse is more than a building. It is becoming a hub where churches, nonprofits, and volunteers work together to ensure that our unhoused neighbors are not alone.

With the help of dedicated partners like Metro Relief and City Missions, we are seeing lives move from crisis toward stability, one relationship at a time.

If you would like to be part of this work, we are always looking for additional Wheelhouse Hosts who are willing to offer a listening ear, a welcoming presence, and a bridge to the resources that can change someone’s life.

Together, we are building a community where everyone has a path forward.

Since moving into The Wheelhouse, something really special has happened. Bed Start and Plain-O Helpers have found a new rhythm together, and that partnership is multiplying what both ministries can do for families in crisis.

Before The Wheelhouse, Bed Start would occasionally pick up donated appliances that had potential but were broken. The problem was simple and frustrating: there was no place to store them, assess them, or repair them, so many would sit in limbo or be left behind, even when they could have been a lifeline for a struggling family. Now, with Plain-O Helpers and Bed Start side by side, Plain-O Helpers volunteers, including several former engineers, saw an opportunity and jumped in with both hands. They carved out a space at The Wheelhouse to test and repair washers, dryers, and refrigerators, giving these appliances a second life.

The result is a beautiful win for our community. Appliances that once felt like “almost donations” are now restored, staged, and sent back out into homes where Bed Start is helping families rebuild after hardship. It is practical help, delivered with dignity, and it is happening because ministries are working together under one roof.

Supporting The Wheelhouse Impact Campaign directly fuels this kind of collaboration. Your gift helps keep the lights on, the doors open, and the space equipped so that mission partners can do more together than they ever could alone. If you have been looking for a tangible way to strengthen real, local transformation, this is it.

The Wheelhouse is not quiet. It’s alive.

This is one week.
One ordinary week.

Bed Start preloads.
Furniture recovery.
Delivery and pickups.
Plain-O Helpers supply teams & Appliance repair.
Fellowship Class sorting and boxing.
Wheelhouse Hosts showing up and being present
Community partners moving in and out all day.
Partner churches using the space to collaborate.

From 6am to 7pm, nearly every day, something is happening.

This is what a Hub for Community Impact looks like.
Not a storage unit.
Not a side ministry.
A living, breathing ecosystem of service.

When you give.
When you volunteer.
When you pray.

This is where it shows up.

A Day at The Wheelhouse Lobby: Where Connection Becomes Action

Yesterday at The Wheelhouse, what began as an ordinary afternoon turned into a living picture of what A Hub for Community Impact truly means.

Ryan was meeting with Cherie, Director of City Missions, a local nonprofit walking alongside our unhoused friends in Plano and Collin County. In the lobby, Bob was finishing his hosting shift—ready to head home—when a friend who lives nearby in his car came in and said, “Bob, can you jump my car?” Without hesitation, Bob grabbed his jumper box and went to help.

As Ryan and Cherie continued their conversation, another familiar face walked through the door asking, “Where’s Barry? I really need to talk to him.” This friend, also currently unhoused veteran, often meets Barry here for coffee, prayer, and a few minutes of peace. Barry wasn’t hosting that day, but Bob welcomed him to stay and talk with all three of them.

As they shared stories, Bob and Cherie learned more about the challenges this neighbor was facing—and rather than stopping at sympathy, they acted. The very next day, the two of them returned to The Wheelhouse, picked him up, and took him to Hope Restored in East Plano to connect him with support and resources.

This is what The Wheelhouse is all about—relationships that move from conversation to collaboration, and compassion that turns into community transformation.
