“Innovation often begins with solving everyday problems.”

Today we honor Alice H. Parker, a brilliant inventor whose ideas helped shape how we stay warm today. ❄️🔥

In 1919, Parker patented a gas-powered central heating system that moved beyond fireplaces and coal stoves—introducing safer, cleaner, and more efficient home heating. Her design even allowed for individual room temperature control, a concept far ahead of its time.

Though her invention wasn’t built during her lifetime, its influence lives on every time we turn up the heat. Alice H. Parker reminds us that innovation doesn’t have to be loud to be lasting.

“Improvement in method is improvement in humanity.”

We honor Norbert Rillieux, a pioneer whose brilliance transformed industry and saved lives. ⚙️🧪

Born a free man of color in 1806, Rillieux revolutionized sugar refining by inventing the multiple-effect evaporator—a scientific process that made production safer, more efficient, and more humane. Before his innovation, workers were routinely injured or killed by open boiling kettles. His work replaced danger with design.

Rillieux’s impact reaches far beyond sugar. His principles are still used today in food processing, chemical engineering, and desalination. Black history is engineering history.
