Two Dallas runners. One unforgettable journey. 🇺🇸🇯🇵🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Sarah Wagner and Alfonzo “Fonz” Gonzalez Jr. proudly represented Dallas at the 2026 Sendai International Half Marathon as athletic ambassadors of the Dallas-Sendai International Friendship City partnership.

Joined by Team Leader Akira Sekiguchi of Japan Airlines, Team Dallas experienced much more than race day—from meeting Sendai Mayor Kazuko Kohri and running with the Hirosegawa Running Club to visiting the Dallas-Sendai Friendship Bell, Sendai Castle, Arahama, and Mori no Sato.

For Sarah, the trip created a meaningful connection to her Japanese heritage. For Fonz, it was a memorable first visit to Japan. For all of Team Dallas, it was a powerful reminder of how sports can build friendships across cultures and borders.

As Dallas and Sendai prepare to celebrate 30 years of friendship in 2027, JASDFW is proud to recognize Sarah, Fonz, and Akira for representing our community with such enthusiasm and heart.

Congratulations, Team Dallas—and thank you to our friends in Sendai for an unforgettable experience! 🇯🇵🤝🇺🇸

For centuries, people in Japan have gathered beneath the autumn moon to celebrate Otsukimi, or “moon viewing.” 🌕

Rooted in traditions dating back more than 1,000 years, Otsukimi is a time to appreciate the beauty of the harvest moon, give thanks for nature’s abundance, and enjoy seasonal symbols such as tsukimi dango and susuki, or Japanese pampas grass.

This September, experience this beautiful tradition right here in North Texas at the Otsukimi Japanese Moon Viewing Festival.

🌙 Discover the tradition. Celebrate the culture. Join us under the moon.
