Singleton Basketball

Singleton Basketball Skills development James Singleton developed a passion for basketball a little later in life than most professional players.

He was introduced to the game at the age of 16, then quickly developed into a dominant high school player. Upon graduating, Singleton received multiple D-1 full-ride scholarship offers to schools like Miami, Texas Tech, Tulane, ect. to play ball, but for family reasons decided to stay a little closer to Mississippi and accepted a full scholarship to Pearl River Community Junior College in Mississi

ppi. As a Wildcat, he broke school records that still stand to this day. He earned the MVP honors and was named to the All Regional Team. After 2 years at Pearl River, James once again started receiving multiple D1 scholarship offers. He eventually found his home at Murray State, due to once again location to his family. He was the only family member that received collegiate offers and having his family close enough to be able to come to games and support him was a big deal. James has always been a family first type guy. It didn’t take long for Singleton to become a crowd favorite. His explosiveness , record high rebounds, field goal percentage and blocked shots could not be overlooked. He was named “Newcomer of the Year” in 2002 as he led the Racers to the Ohio Valley Conference title that season and to an NCAA tournament berth. After College Singleton didn't feel quite ready for the NBA, so he accepted an offer and moved to Italy to refine his skills in the professional European League. He earned numerous honors in just two years, including Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year, Import Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Now Singleton felt ready for the NBA. The Los Angeles Clippers soon discovered Singleton’s talent and offered him a two-year contract. Right off the bat Singleton became a starter for the Clippers and for the first 13 games straight averaged a double double in every game. Singleton was the only rookie in the NBA at the time putting up those kind of numbers. Although he had success playing with the Clippers, he strived to become a more powerful threat. In 2007, Singleton left the NBA to join TAU, a professional Spanish league team. Here Singleton lead his team in winning the Championship game. Following that season, Singleton had multiple NBA offers on the table. Returning to the NBA for the second time, he chose the Dallas Mavericks for a 2 year contract. In 2010, the last leg of his 2nd year, Singleton chose to be traded to the Washington Wizards due to an offer of more playing time to finish-up the season. In 2011 he then chose to bypass a contract renewal from the Wizards, because of the upcoming NBA lock out. Singleton joined the Chinese Basketball Association with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. After leading them to the championship game and being nick named "Superman" for his high flying dunks he returned home. The Wizards were then competing with China for Singleton and his following years. But once again he bypassed the NBA offer and chose to return to China in 2012, but this time with the Guangdong Southern Tigers. He helped to lead the team as well to the CBA Championship game. After the CBA season ended, Singleton was picked back up by the Washington Wizards to finish their 2012 season. With him on the floor the Wizards went on the longest winning streak that team had seen in years. In August 2012, Singleton for the 3rd time bypassed the NBA offers to returned to Xinjiang Flying Tigers where he just finished up his season. He lead his team to the Championship again. He continued his career in China for the next 2 years until gaining another opportunity to play in the Holy land of Isreal in 2015. He took his team to play offs for the first time and mid season on 2017 Singleton took his career to Korea finishing up the 2017 season. Once again taking tremendously improving their seasons end.

As 10/11 year olds, numbers don’t matter. Teaching, coaching and learning does.

Points don’t matter.

What matters is how they play and how they carry themselves.

Do they hustle?
Do they defend?
Did they listen?
Can they lead and be lead when it’s hard?

We’re building young men, not chasing noise.
Leaders don’t need attention. They handle business.

If it can’t be seen on the floor —
effort, discipline, toughness —
then it doesn’t count.

Ignore the noise.
Do the work.
Lead.

Too many people are obsessed with numbers.
Points. Stats. Box scores.

But for what?

If you scored a lot and your team still looks lost, disconnected, and sloppy…
what did you really accomplish?

Our focus isn’t on digital figures.
Our goal is visual.

How you move.
How you communicate.
How you defend.
How you respond when things get hard.

Seen. Felt. Understood.

If it doesn’t pass the eye test,
the numbers don’t mean a thing.

People in general forget quick who’s been standing up for them —
sacrificing family time for them, and truly believing in them and their growth.

Disrespect… lack of buy-in… half attention — that only flies for so long.

Once you reach that point with me, there’s no “can we talk,” no “misunderstanding or miscommunication.”
I make my expectations clear. I give my all — expecting nothing back except respect and full effort.
That’s priceless.

I’ve learned that when you get the chance to learn from rare, you cherish it.

Because when it’s gone… it’s gone.
And the silence that follows will remind you
of the value of what you once had — and can’t get back.

Thanks for such a great camp and experience . Beyond proud of these young men — the growth they’ve shown in such a short time is special. They got the chance to compete with other talented players, prove how much work they’ve already put in, and see firsthand how much more is ahead. This is only the beginning — the grind doesn’t stop, and their ceiling is unlimited. 💯🔥

This is these boys 2nd tournament ever and they goin hard!!! Can't wait to see what the future holds for these boys!
