Saturday, May 2, 2026: The Storehouse Community Center’s Spring 2026 graduation filled the sanctuary at St. Andrew Methodist Church with emotion and celebration as 257 participants from 16 countries gathered to mark their progress. Among them, 11 graduates completed all levels of English instruction and were recognized as powerful examples of perseverance, courage, and transformation.
Leaders and teachers reflected on a semester defined by resilience and community, with many students facing challenges but continuing to show up week after week. CEO Candace Winslow expressed deep gratitude for the volunteer teachers who make the program possible, noting that the Academy would not exist without their dedication and countless hours of service.
Academy Director Ligia Urrego highlighted the strength of the community, sharing that despite challenges, neighbors continued to return, learn, and grow together. In a powerful moment, she invited former graduates who now volunteer as teachers to stand, recognizing them as the heart of the program and a reflection of “neighbors serving neighbors.”
Participants were honored with certificates, including those completing the Work Well program, which equips students with job readiness skills.
A standout moment came from graduate Ruth Rodriguez, who shared her journey from Nicaragua to Texas in 2022. What began as a visit for food became a life-changing commitment to weekly classes, where she found both education and belonging. Through Work Well, she gained skills that led to an apprenticeship and now a full-time role with Hilti. “The Storehouse is a home where we can be ourselves without fear of mistakes—where every smile is another reason to keep coming back.”
An emotional performance of “The Prayer,” featuring both professional musicians and Storehouse neighbors, highlighted the strong sense of community.
