The Prestonwood Chapter of the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) was established in 2005. and is part of a nationwide non-profit service organization that enhances the mother/son relationship through community service and leadership. The young men in the organization are active during their freshman through senior years of high school. YMSL Prestonwood has donated thousands of volunteer hours, par
tnering with almost 20 area philanthropies such as The Storehouse Collin County, Lovepacs, Day Spring Assisted Living, Brother Bill's Helping Hand, Bonton Farms, Minnie's Food Pantry and more. Throughout the League year, mothers and sons are required to complete a minimum of 20 approved philanthropy hours, most of which are accomplished together. In addition, each member must hold a leadership position (there is a variety to choose from) as well as attend monthly meetings. Mom’s meetings include discussing the business of the League as well as learning from guest speakers such as college recruiters, local charities, etc. Boys learn life skills, career exploration, leadership and more. Some favorites include learning simple car maintenance and learning the art of shaving! Membership in YMSL Prestonwood is an excellent way to foster community involvement, personal growth, caring about others, teamwork and leadership skills.
