LCE is pleased to once again be sponsoring Plano's Juneteenth celebrations!

Events start this Wednesday, June 17, with Praisefest at Haggard Park in Downtown Plano. Join us at 6:30 for an evening of dynamic speakers and amazing singers! Arrive early, as the first 250 people will receive a free NYO SNO snow cone to cool down!

On Saturday, June 20th, we will be hosting the Juneteenth Community Festival in the Historic Douglass Community. Prepare for a sun‑kissed, high‑energy afternoon as the festival bursts into life at 3 PM, guiding you from an electric opening to a crescendo of performances. Dive into a rich tapestry of sound with live music, soulful performances, and dynamic dance showcases that keep the energy soaring all day. Savor a fusion of flavors from diverse food vendors, featuring bold, family‑friendly options that delight every palate. Immerse the kids (and the kid‑at‑heart) in immersive cultural activities, interactive storytelling, and hands‑on demonstrations that educate and inspire. Browse a vibrant lineup of local vendors, artisans, and community groups—perfect for discovering unique crafts, handmade goods, and meaningful connections. Engage in powerful moments that honor Juneteenth’s history, celebrate Black heritage, and promote unity, pride, and education for all. Capture memories at photo opportunities, cheers at the stage, and spontaneous moments of joy across the festival grounds. End the day with a standout closing performance that leaves you energized, inspired, and eager for next year’s celebration.

So excited to be able to show these young men that if they take the time to advocate for themselves and the things that are important to them, good things can happen! Congrats to Mrs. Reyes and her students! Job well done!

For several years, LCE has purchased coats and shoes for all of the students at Head Start. When another organization approached the school about donating coats, they asked if we might be willing to provide something different, like warm-weather clothing. Here is the result! We gave each student and teacher a new, screen-printed Head Start hoodie! Each student went home over the holidays with a gift to open, with instructions to wear it on the first day back after break. Finally, the day arrived!!!! Thanks to all who helped make this happen, including Women Making a Difference in Plano, which donated generously to help provide for PISD students. We also couldn't have done it without the help of JJ of Dallas, who ordered and printed these beautiful hoodies. Lastly, I'd like to thank the leadership team at Head Start for always working to try and find ways to help out their kids. They are awesome. The smiles make it all worthwhile.

As we transition into our Holiday Giving campaign, we have to call on our elves to help out! This week we had an amazing group of volunteers join us to help personalize our family gifts, add that special touch to gifts for kids living in a Florida orphanage, and prepare special packages for the students and staff of Plano Head Start. We couldn't make it through the holiday season without these special people!

About 18 months ago, I was introduced to Hope. Her story is hers to tell, so I won't, but she had dropped out of school. An amazing program, and some AMAZING educators, has led her back into a program to help her get her diploma. They reached out to LIFE Community Enrichment to see if we could help Hope get items she needed to excel and fuel her self-confidence. We helped her throughout her journey and cheered every accomplishment. Today i was so proud to attend Hope's graduation! With her diploma in hand, she now plans to pursue a degree in nursing! THIS is why we do what we do! Thanks to all who helped make this happen. Hope had a special village of friends and family lifting her up, and i have no doubt it will carry her through nursing school!

As we roll into December, we are nearing the end of our annual Coats and Shoes Initiative. While the orders are still trickling in, it's safe to say we have helped students in 17 area schools, investing over $25,000 to ensure they are warm this season! In total, we will have provided over 400 Coats and nearly 500 pairs of shoes, plus warm weather clothing!

I received the following message from a school counselor. It perfectly encapsulates why this program is so important and about more than just keeping kids warm. Thanks to all that helped make it happen.

"This December, I had the privilege of witnessing a moment that truly captured the spirit of compassion and community support. While helping distribute the donated jackets, a first-grade student approached me with a mixture of excitement and disbelief in her eyes. She gently pulled on the sleeve of her new light blue jacket and told me that it was the first time in her life she had ever owned a brand-new coat. She explained that, as the younger sibling of an older brother, she had always worn his hand-me-downs jackets that were practical but never truly her own, and certainly never in her favorite color.

Hearing her share this so openly was both touching and humbling. The simple joy she expressed reminded me of how meaningful these donations can be, especially for children who seldom receive something chosen just for them. Acting as the intermediary in securing and distributing these jackets made the moment even more profound. I was able to personally ensure she received a coat that not only kept her warm but also made her feel seen, valued, and special.

Her smile full of pride and happiness was a powerful reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can create lasting memories. This experience reaffirmed the importance of our work and the impact community partnerships can have on the lives of our students."

THIS is why we do what we do.

Thank you to Women Making a Difference in Plano for selecting LIFE Community Enrichment as this quarter's grant recipient. I'd also like to thank those that came to our offices for the check presentation! It was wonderful to have the opportunity to share our programs and vision with them all. One hundred percent of their gift of $11,700 went to coats and shoes for kids in Plano! I've include pictures of our event, some pictures and videos of the shoes starting to be handed out, and information about our total investment thus far in coats and shoes for kids. The work's not done yet though!
