Northeast Nebraska RC&D Northeast Nebraska RC&D serves the following Nebraska Counties: Antelope, Cedar, Dixon, Knox, Pierce, and Wayne. Please reach out at [email protected].

In 1962, Congress established the Resource Conservation & Development program within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to encourage volunteer, locally elected and civic leaders to plan and carry out resource conservation and development projects. The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) administers the program and provides a project coordinator for each Council. Today, th

ere are 375 RC&D Councils across the nation, including Guam, American Samoa, Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. They serve more than 85% of US counties and over 77% of the US population. These Councils provide leadership and help people care for and protect their natural resources to improve an area's economy, environment, and living standards. The RC&D program helps people in rural areas plan and carry out activities that increase conservation of natural resources, support economic development, and enhance the environment and standard of living in local communities. The Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council, which is 1 out of the 12 RC&D Councils that cover the entire state of Nebraska, develops programs and projects in the following areas:


Land Conservation
By encouraging land conservation, the Council will improve soil tilth, reduce soil erosion and help keep sediment out of the water

Land Management
Environmental projects improve natural resources for agricultural and other uses, such as tourism, fish and wildlife habitat, and environmental education. Projects may also promote and preserve historical, scenic sites, energy conservation, and producing energy crops. Water Management
Provide for the conservation, use and quality of water, flood mitigation, agricultural water management, and improved water quality. Community Development
The Council will help create jobs and sponsor job training along with skills development. The Council will help improve or acquire needed community facilities, such as recreation structures, sewage treatment plants, solid waste disposal systems, water systems and roads.

♻️🔋 WE’RE LOOKING FOR BATTERY RECYCLING HOST LOCATIONS! 🔋♻️

The Northeast Nebraska RC&D is making it easier than ever for residents to recycle their household batteries—and we need your help!

We recently purchased 14 household battery recycling containers with the goal of placing two containers in each of the seven counties we serve:

📍 Antelope County
📍 Cedar County
📍 Holt County
📍 Knox County
📍 Madison County
📍 Pierce County
📍 Wayne County

These containers are for standard household dry-cell batteries and can hold up to 55 pounds of batteries.

❗ These batteries cannot be recycled through most electronics and battery recycling locations near us, so we want to make sure residents have convenient local options to recycle them properly.

🏠 WE NEED HOST LOCATIONS!

Do you have a business, community organization, public building, or other easily accessible location where one of our containers could be placed?

There is NO COST to the host location! 🙌

The RC&D will:
✔️ Provide the recycling container
✔️ Handle the recycling process
✔️ Take care of the logistics
✔️ Provide information and support

All you need to do is provide a convenient place for the container to reside and allow community members easy access to it.

Help us keep household batteries out of our landfills and give northeast Nebraska residents a convenient way to recycle! 🌎♻️

🪦 STEP BACK IN TIME: CEMETERY BUS TOUR 🪦

Join the Northeast Nebraska RC&D for a fascinating day exploring the cemeteries of Pierce County and parts of Antelope County on Tuesday, September 15!

This special bus tour will feature stories of people buried in the area, including murder victims and the details surrounding a 100-year-old murder mystery. Local history comes alive as Judy Carlson serves as moderator, with help from Vicki DeJong of Pierce.

🚌 Pick-Up Locations:
📍 7:30 a.m. – Navigator Bus Depot, 3 miles north of Norfolk on Highway 81
📍 8:00 a.m. – Jerry’s Hilltop Cafe, near the Highway 81/20 junction

💰 There is a $65 fee for the trip, which includes a noon meal.
