🚑Caring for our patients, and providers!🚑

At Plains EMS, our commitment has always been to two groups of people: our patients and our providers.
To better protect the men and women who answer the call for help every day, Plains EMS has recently implemented two important safety policies.

The first is a new Lights and Sirens Response Policy designed to reduce the use of emergency driving when it is not clinically necessary. This follows a growing national movement within EMS to reduce unnecessary lights and sirens responses. Research has shown that lights and sirens often save very little time sometimes, as little as 42 seconds, while significantly increasing the risk of motor vehicle crashes.

Since relocating to the east side of town, we have witnessed numerous situations where motorists, attempting to react quickly to an approaching ambulance, unintentionally create hazardous conditions at intersections and roadways. Nationally, motor vehicle incidents remain the leading cause of death and injury among EMS professionals, accounting for approximately 45% of line-of-duty fatalities.

We want our community to know that this change is NOT about downplaying emergencies or delaying patient care. Every call is important to us. This policy is about ensuring our providers arrive safely so they can deliver the care our patients need. The safest ambulance is the one that makes it to the scene.

The second policy focuses on protecting our crews from violence. Nationally, violence against EMS personnel by patients or members of the public accounts for approximately 18% of line-of-duty deaths and injuries. To help address this risk, Plains EMS has obtained four Multi-Threat Protective Vests that can be deployed when crews encounter potentially dangerous situations.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Oxy for fully funding this project through a generous grant. Their support allowed Plains EMS to acquire this critical protective equipment at no cost to our taxpayers. While no piece of equipment can completely eliminate danger, these vests provide an added layer of protection and may give our providers the extra chance they need to return home safely to their families.

Thank you for trusting Plains EMS. Our mission remains unchanged: providing the highest quality emergency medical care while ensuring the safety of the professionals who serve this community every day.

‼️New equipment alert‼️

Plains EMS is excited to announce that we are now carrying CPAP devices on our ambulances!

CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) allows our crews to better care for patients experiencing severe breathing difficulties, including pulmonary edema related to conditions such as CHF (Congestive Heart Failure).

These disposable CPAP units are effective, efficient, and help us provide advanced prehospital care right here in our community. Early intervention can make a major difference for patients struggling to breathe.

We are proud to continue expanding the level of care we provide to the citizens of Plains and Yoakum County.

Last week, Plains EMS had the opportunity to teach CPR and Stop The Bleed to Yoakum County Precincts 3 & 4.

This training came after an important conversation between our EMS Chief and County Commissioners about the very real risks their crews face working across such a large, rural area. With the distance we cover, response times can be affected simply by geography. When emergencies happen out there, minutes truly matter.

So we asked a simple question: why not equip them with the skills to help themselves and each other when it counts most?

Now, more members of our community are trained and ready to act in those critical moments before EMS arrives. That’s how lives are saved.

This year’s EMS Week theme is “Improving Outcomes, Together,” and this is exactly what that looks like, neighbors, coworkers, and agencies working side by side to make our community safer.

We’re proud to be part of that effort. If you or your agency are interested in a class contact us! 100% OF OUR PROFITS GO TOWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS!🚑

🚨New Paramedic alert!🚨

We’re proud to announce that Sammy Ward has officially passed his NR Paramedic exam!

Sammy has put in countless hours of hard work and dedication to reach this milestone. Paramedic school is no easy feat; it demands time, discipline, and resilience and he rose to the challenge every step of the way.

He’s known for delivering exceptional patient care and for always being the first to step up when a coworker needs support. That kind of commitment speaks volumes about the provider and person he is.

Our service and community are truly fortunate to have him.

Please join us in congratulating Sammy and wishing him continued success and blessings, as he steps into this new role.
