Two weeks ago, Natalia, a woman from West Orange, reached out to us about two dogs she found in the South Mountain Reservation. Marcia went to Natalia's house and scanned the dogs for chips (no chips) and took her food, leashes and collars. Police, animal control and the sheriff were alterted...nobody reported losing these dogs...we can only assume they were dumped. Natalia, a cat mom, was willing to learn how to be a dog mom for a couple weeks and care for these dogs until we lined up a rescue to take them. The wonderful Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch stepped up and found a foster for these two and they went to their foster on Thursday!

🐶 Pupdate: Dolly

It’s been 9 months since we trapped Dolly on that cold winter night in Newark. We’ve posted before about how wonderful she is, but we wanted to give you an update on just how wonderfully she’s doing!

Dolly’s foster, Leslie, officially adopted her at the end of May. After 5 months of fostering Dolly, Leslie and her family realized that she fit right in and they couldn’t imagine their lives without her.

Leslie also noticed something really special about Dolly...she helps her other foster dogs feel safe and comfortable while they stay with her. Dolly is incredibly gentle with them, almost as if she understands how scary it can be for a dog to suddenly find themselves in a brand new environment. Dolly has made it her job to reassure the foster's that they are safe and loved. (see pics and videos!)

A few weeks after we trapped Dolly, it became apparent that she was dealing with some medical issues. After several vet visits, a couple of rounds of medication, and plenty of time in a calm and comfortable environment to decompress, Dolly has made an incredible transformation and we are happy to report that she is happy, healthy and as sassy as ever!

Dolly, once on the streets of Newark for months, scouring the trash for food and watching people as they walked by her, is now part of a family.

We are able to trap and provide care for dogs like Dolly through donations. Donations are used for trapping supplies, vet bills, food, supplies and donations to rescue partners who step up for the stray's we trap. We thank our supports and always welcome donations so we can help more dogs!

Dubu was on the run for a little over seven weeks. And we mean, on the run! Dubu ran out of his owner’s parent’s house in Livingston on 6/20 when a guest accidentally let him out. Since then he has been to Roseland, West Orange, Orange, East Orange, South Orange, Maplewood, Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, and finally, Bernardsville. For seven weeks, we received sighting after sighting. Most of them came in hours or days after he was seen. Dubu’s owners and family would hang flyers where he had been seen and where we anticipated he might travel to. When it made sense, we set up cameras and feeding stations. We tried to get ahead of him as he was occasionally returning to the same location, but no real pattern was established. Two different times we thought he had stayed in one area and set traps… then he moved on. Two weeks went by without any confirmed sightings. Today, a woman in Bernardsville saw the post about Dubu in a NJ lost dog Facebook group and called Dubu’s owners. Dubu had been hanging around their neighborhood for a week. They had been feeding him and he had been staying close to their house. Today, after getting this information, Marcia went over to the home in Bernardsville we’re Dubu was seen multiple times and had been eating for 5 days. She set the trap and within 30 min he showed up and went in! Dubu is safe and home where he belongs!

Trouble was trapped!!

Trouble’s owner, who is from West Virginia, was driving his semi-truck in a Newark trucking yard when it got stuck. In the process of trying to get his truck out, Trouble got out of the cab and ran. Trouble’s owner looked for him everywhere but Trouble must have been hiding nearby.

On Tuesday night, Trouble’s owners reached out to us and we went out on Wednesday to set up a camera and feeding station. As soon as we walked back to the car, there was Trouble standing there looking at us. He then trotted away. We knew not to chase him. We immediately switched out the feeding station for a trap. In the mean time, Trouble’s owner drove home to WV to get his wife and other dog in hopes that if Trouble was hiding nearby he would see them and come out. This would be Plan B.

We could only set the trap and stay for a short time so after an hour, we left it open (not set) and kept an eye on the camera. Five hours later Trouble went into the trap and ate. Now we knew he wasn’t afraid of the trap and knew where he could find food. That night Trouble’s owners returned and Kelly set the trap. As she was setting the trap, there he was again! Casually trotting in the opposite direction. He was right there but he wouldn’t come near Kelly and so she didn’t try to approach him. We would all take turns watching the camera with Trouble’s owners parked nearby. Trouble’s owners didn’t sleep, staying up all night to watch the camera. For a day there was no sign of Trouble. Trouble’s owners checked into a hotel just a few minutes down the road so they could take turns getting some rest. Today, Kelly went to the trap and put in some smelly fried chicken and poured more liquid smoke leading to the trap. No Trouble. THEN the camera alert went off. Trouble approached the trap, sniffed a bit and walked right in!!

His owners are so happy and relieved and we are thrilled that Trouble is reunited with his family! Michael and Jami were so committed to finding Trouble and planned to stay in Newark until Trouble was found. Now they can all go home and get some rest.

Figgy’s owners reached out to us yesterday. Figgy had been missing since Tuesday. There were a few sightings all bordering an industrial area near where she was lost. Today Kelly went out to check out the area and place some cameras and feeding stations. Kelly went behind a building at the end of a street near where Figgy was seen yesterday am and someone who worked at the building happened to be outside. They exchanged numbers in case the man saw Figgy then he told Kelly about a quiet area around the building behind an empty lot. Kelly walked over and the man started yelling “Kelly! She’s here!” He saw Figgy in the woods. Kelly immediately called Daniel who was watching Figgy while her owners were out of town and who has Figgy’s mom. Daniel came over with his dog and walked through the woods. His dog took him right to Figgy! Figgy is safe and bathed and now her owners can enjoy their vacation!

Update: Jimmy is now with Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch and in a foster home!!

🐶 Meet Jimmy! 🐶

Kelly saw a post on social media about a dog that was seen running around near trucking yards in Newark.

We drove around one night to get an idea of the area. Then we created an AI image of the dog since all we really had was one picture of his head since he was laying in the grass when the picture was taken from afar. We hung flyers, spoke to some people and placed cameras for 2 days. Most people reported seeing him early in the morning. We didn't see him on our cameras, but we decided to take a chance and place a trap yesterday morning early. It seemed a bit premature but it worked!

Jimmy was trapped within 30 min of putting the trap down and we brought him to Marcia’s house. Marcia’s daughter is in vet school and a vet tech so she helped assess him, bathe him and give him lots of love. She said he's young, maybe even a puppy. He gets along nicely with Marcia’s older female dog and is fine with her nice cats but weird around the wacky ones 😊.

His favorite activities are sitting with a human on the couch snuggling, napping and going for long walks. He is so dang cute when he walks with you and he loves to trot around endlessly. As expected, he’s not potty trained, neutered or chipped, but will be before he’s adopted!

Jimmy needs a forever home! Marcia’s house is just one stop on his journey! If you are interested in adopting Jimmy, please reach out. If you are interested in fostering him, please reach out! If you are a rescue that can handle and coordinate Jimmy's future, please reach out!

As it turns out, Dolly has already been living in her forever home! Dolly was a foster fail and we couldn’t be happier for her and her forever family!

Six months ago we found out that Dolly was seen in Newark walking the same streets for two months. Once we found out about her, we put a plan in place to trap her. We had no idea what she was like but we found out shortly after taking her out of the trap that she is the sweetest, most loving dog. After staying at Marcia’s house then Kelly’s for two weeks, Leslie Prendergast stepped up to foster Dolly… and fell in love. Leslie fosters other dogs and Dolly quickly learned that some dogs need extra comfort and reassurance before they feel comfortable enough to come out of their shell. She became an emotional support dog to Leslie’s fosters and fit right in with Leslie’s family.

Dolly has some medical issues that are currently being managed. Thank you to our donors for making this possible.

We want to extend the biggest thank you to Leslie for agreeing to foster Dolly before she even knew much about her and for taking such wonderful care of her. Dolly is right where she is meant to be…home.

We also want to thank Brick City Rescue Inc. for sponsoring Dolly and sharing her with their network.

We were alerted to a post about this Jack Russell seen in Newark (near 4th and Passaic). Please do not go out looking for the dog, it will chase him from the area.

The poster did not reply to our messages so we have limited information about the exact location and days when the dog has been seen. Someone who saw the dog this evening reached out to us. We went to the area but it’s a large area full of trucking yards and construction. We need to figure out where he frequents so we can place feeding stations and cameras. Please call or text if you have any information.
