Welp, where do I start? Help?!
This teeny tiny Yorkshire Piglet is a truck jumper that ended up at IACS. They were amidst a parvo outbreak and had no where to keep him, unsure what to feed him, and desperate for help. No other rescue was able to take him on and there was no time to waste so I swooped him up despite it being a decision that broke one of my boundaries, but let’s be real do I even have boundaries anymore? I have historically not taken in large farm pigs due to my space and fencing/shelter set ups among other logistics. I am a one woman show at the farm, daily care/maintenance is one thing but construction and fencing is always a stressor…so let’s bring on some stress! 🤣🤣🤦♀️ Long term, a new shelter will need built by me or purchased if it can be funded, as well as a whole new fence project.
On to the important cute baby stuff! Surprisingly, he had mostly minor injuries- scrapes on his face, legs, underside. He is also somehow missing one “toe” part of a hoof, which looked to be an older injury, likely getting stuck in a grate prior to his transport. Mind you, the vet today estimated him to be UNDER 3 WEEKS OLD, and he has been with us for 1 week now, meaning he was merely 1-2 weeks old when separated from his mom and stuffed on a trailer to either jump or fall from onto the interstate😩
He was skinny at intake, barely 5lb, and had no idea how to eat on his own. The first day he was brought home he had to be syringe fed, fast forward to about 12:30am and I am woken up by cats scurrying and a little piglet oinking. I attempt to offer him milk in a dish again, and lo and behold we have success! So, in light of him finally eating after midnight and turning in to the sweetest mischievous little piglet, I am *thinking* about calling him Gremlin! Any thoughts or suggestions?!
Overall, he is doing well and thriving. He received an antibiotic injection at intake last week and saw his vet team at Purdue today for an evaluation. He has coughed a few times and imaging revealed mild changes in his lungs paired with a very minor fever. In an abundance of caution he received another antibiotic injection today and we are also waiting on results of an enteric f***l panel. So far his missing toe has been healing well and we hope that it does not cause him any long term issues. He is currently residing as a house pig, often a lap pig, and not really sure how that will work out when he is 600+ pounds 🤪
So, here is the part where we ask for help. Our finances are very tight right now, but we couldn’t say no to a baby in distress with no where to go. We are hoping our little village can step in to help this brave and lucky little guy to give him his second chance. We need to raise funds to cover his veterinary bills, shelter/enclosure costs, and his milk/feed.
Below are ways to donate. THANK YOU for the support and please wish our little guy the best. 💖🐷
