SUMMER TEEN EXPERIENCE: The Y's signature Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed for teens who are looking to develop skills as future leaders–with a special focus on the unique skills needed to become a camp counselor.

We are pleased to announce that Zaire Ali has joined Greater Somerset County YMCA as the Associate Program Director at Plainfield YMCA.

Zaire brings a plethora of experience, most recently as an adjunct professor at CUNY and a director with Urban Health Collaborative developing programs and building community partnerships. He looks forward to serving the Plainfield community as a member himself where he has seen the city’s growth and ongoing need for strong support for families outside of government systems. Zaire holds several graduate degrees in education and public health.

🎉 Big congratulations to our incredible Greater Somerset County YMCA Youth & Government delegation!

Representing 1 of 21 delegations statewide, 19 of our student leaders stepped into the roles of legislators, lobbyists, and journalists, debating real issues alongside peers from across the state at the 2026 New Jersey YMCA State Alliance Youth & Government State Conference, held from April 24–26 in East Brunswick.

We're so proud to share:
• 1 High School delegate was re-elected as a State YAG Officer and selected as 1 of just 26 students statewide to attend the prestigious Conference of National Affairs (C**A).
• 2 Junior Legislator bills passed, with an additional High School bill advancing through committee with strong bipartisan support.
• 8 Peer-Elected Executive Board members (5 High School, 3 Middle School), including a Middle School Executive Board President.
• 2 graduating seniors who have led and mentored the next generation.

We’re already looking ahead to January 2027! 👏
