BE INSPIRED Achievers College & Career Prep Program at Plainfield YMCA is a college and career preparation program to motivate youth and teens by giving them the support and resources to pursue and achieve their personal, academic, and career goals.

Free for students in Grades 9–12 starting October through May + Free YMCA membership to Somerville YMCA is included after completion of the Achievers program.

Saturdays in Motion, at Plainfield YMCA, is a FREE recreational program for children with autism. Autistic children and their families join together on select weekends for recreation. Volunteers lead the program and carefully guide the children through gym time activities. This program is free to the community.

Every Y Story Matters: Meet Kadijah! When Kadijah first arrived at Plainfield YMCA's Camp RISE, she wasn't sure camp was the place for her. Having recently moved to a new school in Plainfield at the end of the school year, she was entering another new environment with all new faces.

In the beginning, Khadijah kept her distance from the other campers and counselors and wasn't interested in participating or making connections. But little by little, things began to change. As she spent more time with her group and counselors, she began to open up and let her personality shine. She started participating in camp activities, laughing with her peers, and forming friendships with campers she could continue talking to when she returned to school.

What was especially exciting was watching her confidence grow into leadership. Kadijah began volunteering to help with breakfast and lunch, setting up sports and games, and assisting counselors with camp activities. Her biggest transformation was seen during our Family & Friends Day, when she confidently stepped up to help run the henna tattoo station. She wasn't just participating anymore she was helping create a memorable experience for others.

Her Camp RISE journey shows that sometimes, young people just need a little time, patience, encouragement, and a welcoming community to discover where they belong. From a camper in a new environment and didn't want to talk to anyone, to a camper who built friendships, connected with counselors, participated in activities, and stepped into a leadership role—her growth is exactly what the YMCA experience is all about.

Every Y Story Matters: At Plainfield YMCA, we believe in developing tomorrow's leaders by providing opportunities to learn, serve, and grow.

We're proud to recognize two Achiever program students, Wilson and Nathan, who have truly embraced the Y's mission through their dedication and commitment. Throughout the year, they have participated in our summer camp internship program and volunteered with our Saturdays in Motion (SIM) program, supporting children with diverse abilities.

Their willingness to give back, lead by example, and invest their time has made a meaningful impact on our campers, participants, and the entire Y community. They have demonstrated what it means to live the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Twenty-five years later, we pause to reflect, remember, and honor the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the brave first responders who ran toward danger to help others.

At the Y, we recognize the importance of ensuring a new generation understands the unimaginable loss of that day while also learning from the stories of bravery, compassion, unity and service that emerged in its aftermath — stories that continue to ripple through the decades.

From big adventures and exciting trips to games, laughter, new friendships and plenty of sunny summer days, Summer Camp at Plainfield YMCA was filled with moments to remember!

Our campers had the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, try new things and make friendships that made this summer extra special.

We’re so grateful to all of our staff, campers, families who made this summer such a great one. Take a look back at some of our favorite moments!
