New Life for Haiti We minister to the needs of families & children, share our love for Christ, & promote sustainability. https://newlifeforhaiti.org

After a decade of taking annual trips to help with projects in various parts of Haiti, a group of friends from the Chicago area began to feel the urge to focus on one part of the country. Pastor Fran Leeman from LifeSpring Church and a few others sat down with Steve and Joline Moore, long time missionaries to Haiti, and proposed we find that place and get to work. After considering several possibi

lities, we ended up wandering around the Grand Anse River Valley for a week in 2006, visiting villages, meeting people, and asking questions about life there. At the end of that week, the whole group felt we had found the place, and we should get to work. The valley and mountains where we work are a remote area beyond the city of Jeremie at the end of Haiti’s southern peninsula. Following several visits to the valley, the local churches gave us a piece of land overlooking the river on which to build a house. We built a great house for our staff to live in and our one-week teams to stay in; we named it Kay Bo Rivye, which is Kreyol for “House by the River”. Our first couple of years in the valley were spent getting situated, building relationships, and starting to understand the needs. Since then, we have built six schools, rebuilt scores of homes after Haiti’s massive earthquake, helped reestablish farmers who were wiped out by a series of hurricanes, created the Village of Hope Orphanage, and provided hundreds of children with the opportunity to attend school and receive nutritious, protein-rich food.

May 18th is Flag Day in Haiti, a national holiday celebrating independence from French rule. And if you’re anywhere near Marfranc, our School of Hope was the place to be today. Our kids were at the center of a community celebration of national pride.

The School of Hope hosted student teachers from the Normal School recently. These visits are a wonderful opportunity for the University students to get hands on practice, a chance for our teachers to share some of their experience with them, and a fun break for our precious School of Hope kids.

Happy Day! As we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior Jesus, I’m reminded of many things. The greatest day in history when Jesus rose from the grave! Nothing wrong with a bunny and a few eggs, but faith in the King of Kings brings much more joy. Thanks for our amazing staff in Haiti, and their compassion and love for the children and families we are blessed to serve. And thanks for you, the many folks that pray and financially support the ministry of New Life for Haiti. As my pastor loves to say, let’s all live and love like Jesus. Just imagine a world where more people took those words to heart.

Does your local school do a reading night or similar event? Want to give back by helping New Life for Haiti by sharing our mission and raising money to give kids a great education? Message us for more details. Katie Hoffman recently did one at her school and raised several hundred dollars for some much needed books for our students in Haiti!

Ever wonder what a classroom at the School of Hope looks like? Each is uniquely designed for the age group. I love the fun and brightly colored murals! What I don't love is the bare book shelves. While we budget for needed text books as a part of our sponsorship program - it would be wonderful if we had more books to promote the joy of reading and expose students to a world beyond their little remote village. Katie and I will be at her schools reading night next week sharing some hatian stories and seeking donations to buy more books to share. If your school has something similar and you would like to help us fundraise, please message us. Or if you would like to donate, here's a link: https://bit.ly/4aZDZMq

Any prayer warriors out there? Would love some prayers for:
1. Our field director Vilex Plaiser - he models loving God and loving others better than almost anyone I know - but he has a huge responsibility managing our operations in Haiti and facing daily challenges in a difficult environment - please pray for continued wisdom, health, and endurance!
2. For safety during carnival this week. Most of this week in Haiti is a national holiday, with some serious partying going on. Please pray everyone stays safe and stays sane.
3. For the government - the term for the 9 member council they had set-up to run the country until elections expired without completing their task, leaving only the prime minister and no firm plan for an election. Please pray for peace, direction, and international assistance to remove gang control in Port-au-Prince. Pray for new leadership that is honest and fair. Pray for hope despite the many challenges facing our friends in Haiti.

God is Great! And our friends at Water for Life are pretty awesome too! The well they installed for us at the School of Hope has not been working properly for the last couple of months. It is the only clean source of drinking water in the region - one that children and families walk for miles to access. As you can see from this video, it is up and running strong now! The Water for Life team stopped by and fixed it in no time. Thanks you Jesus, and thank you Water for Life!

Ever wonder what church is like in Haiti? Here’s a short clip of a 4 hour Christmas Eve service our field director Vilex was at leading worship. They are singing “here comes the father” - yes and amen to that!

The School of Hope is the best in the area, and designed to be a model for other schools in Haiti. To further that excellence, two of our amazing Board Members, Katie Hoffman and Janelle Gray, conducted a training session for our Haitian teachers on WhatsApp. New ways to connect with kids were taught and modeled, ways to improve testing and test preparation were discussed, and our Haitian-American ties were strenghtened. Special shout-out to our amazing translator Wheatly, our hardworking Field Director Vilex for coordinating everything in Marfranc, and our incredible educators/board members who devoted their time to making a difference to help build a sustainable future for children and families in one of the poorest countries in the world.
