So cool!!
I received a text from a woman at 12:50 pm that her pump was only pumping one side and the other side was becoming engorged. I posted on a local breastfeeding page that I admin on a photo of the piece that she needed.
I received a call from another mom from the community for an entirely unrelated issue. I asked her where she lived? She said Skokie, which is where the other woman that needed the connector piece lives.
I asked if she had a connector piece the woman could pick up?? And she said yes!!!
I also received a response from the amazing Alison Velasco, a local lactation consultant and postpartum doula that said she had a connector piece the woman could pick up as well!!
The two moms were connected by 3:40 pm!
God is good y’all!
This is not a religious page and Milk Of the Heart helps people of all faiths.
This is the piece she needed.

I wanted to share a sincere thank you to LeShae Hudson-Devers for her generosity and quickness to give. A couple of weeks ago on a Friday night, one of the Mothers that I helped with breastfeeding, who has since moved to a southern state, contacted me. She sent me a text of a family photo with her, her infant and older son. She said she wanted to say thank you for all the help I had given her.
I asked how she was doing and if she and her family were all employed. She said she was fine and no one had contracted COVID but that she did recently lose her job due to COVID situations but not because she tested positive.
I told her to give me her address so that I could send her something for her family. Not even an hour later I received another texts from a mom that was helpful me find homes for 20 glider rocking chairs that I received as a donation from a hospital upgrading. (I don’t have the rocking chairs in my possession yet due to the COVID situation.)
Anyway, I told her about the mom and that I would add her donation with mine and send it to the mom.
I love it when things like this happen!!!

I was able to attend the American Public Health Association, Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I saw many speakers spanning the globe but my favorite was the Panel discussion on “Decolonizing Breastfeeding Research.”

I co-presented with my amazing supervisor and scientist, Lauren Keenan-Devlin, a poster abstract titled, “Hospital Based Breastfeeding Peer Counselors Associated with Improved Duration.”

Many of the members on this page have donated the baby items that women that I work with have requested to make their breastfeeding journeys easier which makes the poster abstract a collaboration between all of us.

I met with a mom of a preemie that donated a ton of preemie and newborn baby clothes!!! Thank you Brittany Walker for your willingness to give. Many times moms come in for a doctors appointment and are admitted with no notice and then have the baby preterm. Many of them haven’t bought baby clothes yet because it is still too early. It is such a help to have one less thing to purchase.

Thank you to Ani Lucena for her willingness not only to give but to rush over with 3 of her children in tow to drop off a breastpump in the box for a mom without insurance right now.
She also brought over baby clothes, gift bags and cards to give to my mommies.
