Our session was full of conversation and color as we focused on different techniques to create texture and add impressionist qualities to the paintings.

David shared that he is “too smooth” in his painting style and wanted to be more textured and abstract. Once he accomplished this in his final painting, he shared how he had slowed down and was intentional with his paintbrush.

đź’—Moments like these remind us of the impact of creative experiences and how they stimulate the brain to build new neural connections and protect existing neurons, slowing the progression and onset of memory loss.

During a recent Art Reveals on the Screen: Mother’s Day and Beautiful Mother Earth, residents at Country Club Manor were immersed in joyful memories and emotions brought on by Albert Beirstadt’s Rocky Mountains.

🎣 Armand decided that he would be the figure sitting by the lake fishing, which prompted Linda to joke, “And I’d be jumping into the water scaring all the fish away!”

đź’—These touching moments are a beautiful reminder that art and nature continue to inspire wonder, connection, and joy- experiences that are vital to the well-being and quality of life of those living with memory loss.

In a recent Expressive Painting session at River’s Edge, we were reminded of how a seemingly simple painting session can be life-changing.

Two friends, Charlyn and Claudia, have been attending these sessions for the past year and a half. While they often express their appreciation for the sessions, this time was different.

After joking about how they had been eagerly waiting for this month’s session, Charlyn exclaimed, “You saved us!”

Claudia added, “It’s true. We were really down before these classes started.” We connected over how meaningful this time is for the group, with Charlyn adding that she loves having participants from memory care join.

Moments like these remind us how creative activities can reduce isolation, stimulate the mind, and reconnect us to joy.

đź’™Our recent artful Bible study invited the participants to celebrate the spring season. The artworks connected spiritual themes of redemption, forgiveness and joy to the beauty of the world around us.

When exploring “Purity,” by Josef Kore, the group at Foothills Church was encouraged to imagine a world that is completely renewed and purified by Christ’s sacrifice and love.

Ricardo shared that he used to climb trees in his hometown of Ensenada when he was young. He recalled the view from the top, smiling, “The ocean. It was beautiful.”

The group was asked if they see God’s love in the beauty of nature around them, Debbie said, “Yes, because he’s God and he has control of everything, it’s God’s nature.”
