Together we seek to host an amazing event to WOW the worldwide professional gold panning community and our local community. The WGA will officiate the competition but our community, historical associations and wonderful family owned businesses have the opportunity to bring the best El Dorado County has to offer to the many visitors.

Phil told me yesterday that our old friend Joey Mitchell passed away this week. There was never a nicer man in the radio business. Here’s a Joey story. Our first radio job was in 1984 and we had no idea what we were doing— anyone remember Robins, Kinney & Cowan on KPOP? We met the great Joey Mitchell and he embraced us like we were equals and colleagues and friends. When that first radio job told us they wanted to talk with us about our first contract (we were month-to-month rookies), we panicked. And the first thing we did was call Joey, who met with us after we all got off the air, calmed us down, and gave us great advice. If you ever heard him over the decades he was on the air, you should know that he was the same kind, funny man in real life. I raise a glass of “Hiney Wine” to a wonderful man who will be missed.
