Sierra Chaplaincy

Sierra Chaplaincy We are a faith-based team with a secular purpose: to add value to the agencies we serve. Welcome to the Sierra Chaplaincy.

We help first responders do their jobs, from providing spiritual and emotional first aid to citizens at the scene of a tragedy, to ride alongs and chats over coffee. We are a team of volunteer chaplains led by Senior Chaplain Betsy Vanderpool and team leads Roxanne Alby - Folsom, Kristi Miller-Mayhew - EDSO, Shirley Hampton - Amador and Kristen Weckworth - Tahoe. We serve our first responder partn

ers at El Dorado County Sheriffs, Folsom Police Department, Placerville Police Department, El Dorado County Probation, El Dorado County Jail and Amador Couty. This program services the needs of all law enforcement individuals who work in El Dorado and Amador County. It is an ecumenical ministry that responds to the needs of victims, and officers regardless of religion, belief, denominational background, or lack thereof.

Always remember their sacrifice.

Hopefully it has been an enjoyable and safe weekend for everyone. Please take a moment to pause to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Always speak their names!

Please join us for this important presentation. At tSierra Chaplaincy, we respond to requests from both the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department and the Folsom Police Department for fentanyl related deaths at an alarming rate. Many of these victims are under 25 years old and succumb to accidental overdoses after being offered counterfeit Xanax or Hydrocodone pills given to them unknowingly by acquaintances. According to the CDC, this synthetic op**te has killed between 48k and 52k adults, ages 25 to 64, over the past 12-month rolling period throughout the U.S. Please come and learn about the many ways to prevent your children and loved ones from falling victim to this growing epidemic in our communities. Admission is free and open to the public.

It was great to spend time with some of our amazing El Dorado County deputies today! Grateful for their "Coffee with a Cop" events to meet with the public in a relaxed setting. This time it was in Cameron Park, but they schedule them regularly all around the county.
Our chaplains highly recommend the community make time to get out and chat with them. Events like this also occur with our other agencies as well, so we will be sure to share the events whenever they are posted!

Police Officers Memorial Day is May 15th, designated by proclamation originally in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, to honor federal, state, and municipal officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. All through the week different events and activities take place in Washington, D.C., as well as in local areas.

As chaplains, we are blessed to walk alongside those called to this profession every day. This week we make extra time to Honor the Fallen, Support the Living and Never Forget. 💙🙏 You are appreciated.
