CALL FOR HELP: We often get requests for information or photographs of something in particular+. And we regularly fulfill those requests if possible. At this time we have a request for photographs of the exterior and interior of the former Fort Pittston School building located on the corner of North Main Street and Parsonage Street. We have a few photos of the exterior, but not many. And even less of the interior. We're asking each of you if you have any historic photographs of the school in an old photo album tucked away to share them with us. Please direct message us if you do and are interested in sharing them. We aren't looking to take possession of your photos, but just to photograph or scan them so that we can have a digital copy. Thanks in advance for your help.

Countdown to Parade Day with this 1960's parade photo.

The second it hits 40 degrees in Pennsylvania, the entire state just collectively decides winter is over, regardless of what the calendar says or what’s definitely coming next week. You see people outside in shorts and hoodies, standing in parking lots like they just escaped something. Someone’s grilling for no real reason. The same snow pile that’s been sitting there since January is now just a wet monument everyone walks past like it’s earned respect. Windows are cracked open in houses across the state, not because it’s warm, but because it feels warm compared to the emotional damage we’ve endured. You hear birds again, and for a brief moment, everyone forgets about the inevitable March snowstorm that’s already loading in the distance.

In short, winter’s still here but starting to lose its grip as slow melting, cold air, and cautious hints of spring settle across the state.

The AI program we've been using (ChaptGPT) has its' limitations as many of you have noticed. Words appearing on signs are spelled incorrectly, the faces of the people in this photograph are jumbled. We've tried Pilot AI and the results looked completely unrealistic. Since these colorized photos are being so well received we'll continue looking for an AI product that produces better image quality, even if it requires a subscription for expanded use. If anyone has any suggestions we'd gladly give it a try. At any rate, below we're looking up a brick-surfaced Charles Street in Pittston in I believe the early 1960's. Frank's Lunch is on the corner on the right - now Napoli Pizza. I believe that was Ernie's Shoes on the left corner at the time with the Republican Party Headquarters on the second floor.
