Joanne Martello wants to know if anyone recognizes this gentleman? She found this painting in an attic in Pittsford. It’s not signed. Looks like mid 1800’s.

Memorial Day is not “Happy.”
It is sacred.
It is the day we pause as a nation to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country.
It is the folded flag handed to a grieving family.
The quiet walk through a cemetery lined with headstones.
The names etched in stone.
The empty chair at the dinner table.
The final salute that still echoes through generations.
Memorial Day is not about celebration.
It is about remembrance.
Before the cookouts, before the gatherings, before the long weekend — may we first pause to honor those who never made it home.
May we remember the sacrifice behind the freedoms we enjoy each day.
Because freedom has never been free.
