Berkshire Concert Choir is proud to present this semester’s performance “Questions & Answers: American Echoes”

Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm
Sunday, May 10, 2026 at 3:00 pm

This selection features a blend of choral and pop-rock music that grapples with questions of American identity and ideals as we mark the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. With classical selection by composers such as Moses Hogan, Ysaye Barnwell, and Craig Hella Johnson, and pop songs by civil rights era luminaries Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and Marvin Gaye. The concert will also feature a house band made up of members of the Choir alongside guest conductor Ben Coakley and Artistic Director Ryan José LaBoy.

This Sunday, February 15th, we invite you to join us at Hot Plate Brewing, in honor of Pittsfield’s 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival and Hot Plate’s release of one of their ten small batch beers. We will sing together to raise our voices with calls for justice and change, and messages of solidarity and hope.

Rehearsals begin THIS WEEK for our Spring 2026 concert “Questions and Answers”!!!

Coupled selections that pose open-ended questions with musical “answers”, this puzzler of a program is crafted collaboratively between Artistic Director Ryan LaBoy, members of the choir, and our guest conductor. More information will be coming soon about the program and other details of this semester!

Rehearsals will begin Thursday, February 5th, and take place every Thursday night 7:00–9:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church of Pittsfield (74 First Street in Pittsfield).

One of our other optional activities that you can participate in to kick off the spring semester is our Hot Plate 10x10 Community Sing! February 15, 4:00-5:30 pm, Hot Plate Brewing.

For the 3rd year in a row, we have been invited to collaborate with Hot Plate Brewing to celebrate the release of one of their 10 small batch brews, part of the 10X10 UpStreet Arts Festival that takes place across Pittsfield. We will be performing two choral spotlight pieces and leading community singing.

Rehearsals begin Thursday, February 5th!
Ready to Sing Sooner? Join one of our optional singing activities: Music Fundamentals Sessions, lead by Chelsea Beatty. January 22nd and 29th, 6:30-7:30 pm, Zion Lutheran Common Room
These two sessions will focus on:

Rhythm: Explore how to read the note values and time signature in a piece, how to internalize subdivisions of the beat, and how to connect the music on the page to the conductor’s gesture.

Pitch: Explore how to read notes on the staff, how to determine the key of a piece, and how to use movable do solfège to improve interval recall and support stronger sight reading.

Articulation & Expression: Explore how to read articulation markings and dynamics to shape a phrase of music.
