🎉 Congratulations to our friends and partners at the Elizabeth Freeman Center on being named one of the Best of the Berkshires this year! 💜

While we may have lost our streak, we couldn’t be happier to see this recognition go to such a deserving organization. We’re proud to partner with an organization that makes such a meaningful difference in our community every day.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor! 👏💜

What does it mean to live in poverty? The answer may depend on a formula created more than 60 years ago.

In Berkshire County, a family of four earning $33,000 a year could spend $1,800 a month on rent alone — leaving little for food, heat, transportation and everything else.

At Berkshire Community Action Council, the reality is clear: financial hardship doesn't stop when a family earns a dollar above the official poverty line. Many of the people seeking help earn too much to be considered officially poor, but still struggle to make ends meet.

Is it time to rethink how America defines poverty?
