The Center of Pittsfield The Christian Center is the oldest nonprofit human service organization in the Berkshires. Founded in 1892 by parishioners of the First Methodist Church.

The Center exists to nourish, empower, and connect individuals and families by providing compassionate and equitable support, essential resources, and opportunities that strengthen our community, help our neighbors thrive, and improve quality of life. The Christian Center was first known as the Epworth Mission. Following the Great Depression the Epworth Mission developed numerous programs to meet the social needs of the day and hired a full-time director. The Pittsfield Area Council of Churches underwrote the cost of these activities.

Honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Today, Monday, October 12, The Center honors Indigenous Peoples’ Day and recognizes the rich histories, traditions and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples.

Land Acknowledgment: The Center recognizes that we are located on the ancestral homelands of Indigenous peoples, including the Mohican people, known today as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians, who have longstanding ties to this land. We honor the Indigenous communities who have cared for this land across generations, acknowledge the lasting impacts of colonization and displacement, and recognize the importance of ongoing learning, respect, and meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples today.

We acknowledge the resilience of Indigenous communities, honor their ancestors and traditions, and recognize the importance of listening, learning, and working toward a future rooted in respect and equity.

At The Center, we believe a stronger community begins with connection, compassion, and a commitment to ensuring everyone feels valued and welcomed.

Today and every day, we celebrate the diversity that makes our community stronger. đź’š
