Graduates of African heritage from across Berkshire County were recently honored during a special recognition ceremony celebrating their academic achievements and future aspirations. Hosted by local community organizations, the event brought together students, families, educators, and community leaders to recognize the hard work and dedication of this year's graduates.

In addition to celebrating commencement milestones, the ceremony provided financial gifts, scholarships, and words of encouragement as students prepare to pursue higher education, vocational training, and other opportunities. The annual event highlights the importance of community support, educational achievement, and the continued success of Berkshire County's graduating students.

The Berkshire United Way Venture Fund supports nonprofit organizations, public agencies, neighborhood associations, and emerging groups working to address urgent and high-priority needs in Berkshire County. Grants of up to $10,000 are available for innovative projects, programs, or services that improve quality of life and respond to emerging community challenges.

The fund is designed to help launch new ideas and initiatives that make a meaningful impact, while encouraging long-term sustainability and growth. Eligible organizations serving Berkshire County residents may apply for support through the quarterly review process.

Taconic High School athlete Romeo Yankey earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash at the Massachusetts state championships, capping off another impressive performance on the track. Competing against some of the state's top runners, Yankey continued to showcase the talent and determination that have made him a standout athlete for the Thunder.

His achievement highlights the strength of local student-athletes competing at the highest levels of high school sports and brings recognition to both Taconic High School and the broader Berkshire County track and field community.

The day will include yoga, somatic healing, acupuncture, massage therapy, Reiki, and Zumba, offering participants a chance to relax, recharge, and connect through a variety of wellness practices in a supportive environment.

Grants typically average around $10,000.

This opportunity is open to nonprofits, community groups, coalitions, and individual cultural workers or leaders in the Berkshire Taconic region. Applications are reviewed through a participatory process, with a June 15 deadline.

On May 30th, join the Women of Color Giving Circle, Rights of Passage and Empowerment (R.O.P.E.), and the Berkshire County Branch NAACP for the 24th Annual Graduate Recognition Event, a celebration honoring Berkshire County high school graduates of color and African descent.

The afternoon will recognize students’ achievements while connecting graduates with financial support opportunities for higher education and technical studies. This year’s event will also feature keynote speaker Jerome Edgerton Jr., Pittsfield High School Generals Boys Basketball Coach.
